Where is my grandmother?

Recently an uncle wrote and asked me if I know the whereabouts of his mother’s cremated remains; he believes that she was placed somewhere, not kept around the house. My father handled all those arrangements (I was a teenager at the time) and after he died I got all his papers. I don’t have anything about this.

Can I write to the various columbariums etc. in the likely city location asking for information?

Is there a better way to find out?

Can you contact the funeral home that handled her arrangements? They may have helped with the placement.

First place I’d look would be on Findagrave.com to see if somebody posted her interment location. It’s unlikely, but it’s possible. If the ashes were taken home by someone, then you’re probably out of luck, although the columbarium would have the information on who took the cremains. You’ll have to contact the ones in that area and see if they have a record for your relative. Were I you, I’d call the places rather than write.
