Where is that "Star Trek TOS" vs. "Lord of the Rings" thread?

I tried searching but couldn’t find it.

Thanks.

Star Trek has at least one movie I enjoyed.

Damnit, I meant to say “At least Star Trek had one movie I enjoyed”.

You’re asking who would win in a fight between the original U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, and Sauron the Dark Lord, right?

That all depends on whether Sauron has the One Ring, doesn’t it?

Why would it? All it would take is one photorp launched from orbit to obliterate them both. Or, if they *must *fight mano y mano, once Kirk’s shirt is ripped, Sauron’s his bitch.

And before anyone says it: fuck Batman. Most overrates superhero ever.

av8rmike made a web page with what seems to be the comprehensive list of LOTR what if’s, including one regarding Star Trek (TV Shows-Star Trek).

He put the list in a thread, too.

I dunno, if Kirk can survive a photon torpedo detonating less than ten yards away from himself, I think the Dark Lord would laugh at a few tickles to the ribs.

Frankly, I doubt the mental ability of anyone in the Federation is enough to withstand the manipulation and powers of control that Sauron is capable of utilizing.

Not sure if this is the thread which you’re thinking of but this is the one I thought of when I read the OP: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=194877

Ah, HA! That’s the one! I was looking for “Star Trek” in the title and should have been looking for “Enterprise.” Thanks!

 When did this happen?!

Star Trek 6, if I recall correctly, though it’s been years. Basically, a photon torpedo was fired at Kirk’s position from orbit, he does the requisite “jump outta de way at ze last second” bit that every action hero does, and is completely unscathed by the three or four sticks of dynamite that go off behind him.

Maybe it was a bit more than ten yards (although I think I’m overestimating), but c’mon… a 100-pound rock falling from orbit woulda done more damage than that.

ST:VI is my favorite movie and I’ve seen it at least a dozen times and there is no such scene anywhere in that movie. Or any of the other nine, for that matter.

Favorite *Trek *movie, I mean. Garden State’s my favorite overall.

That would be Star Trek V… if such a sequel exists…which it doesn’t.

Was that from orbit? Or even a photorp? The scene as I remember it was the Klingon Bird of Prey firing a disruptor bolt at “God” from however many yards away while Kirk was trying to get away.

I’m fairly certain that it was a photon torpedo launched from the Enterprise.

It struck me as…inconsistent… that a photon torpedo would do so little damage…but… that’s Star Trek V, for you…

I don’t own any of the movies so I don’t have them to check but that seems off to me. I’ll take your word for it though.

And also, even if it did happen like you say it did, the Uhura sand dune dance would still be even more preposterous. :stuck_out_tongue:

It was a Klingon Bird of Prey, firing some sort of blaster at close range. They then beam Kirk up, at which point the fat Klingon ambasador to the “Planet of Peace” says, “I’d like to introduce our gunner,” and the gunner’s chair swivels around to reveal Spock.

Aha. I was right then.

Thanks, Eonwe.

(ZAP!)

Awww crap! :smack: It seems you are correct.

Generally, I am the one correcting fellow fans about their facts. I’m so ashamed…
