Where is the most disgusting bathroom you've seen?

No specifics on the level of filth needed, unless you really want to share. I would love to hear of those with feces smeared on the wall- I’ve heard horror stories from others but never actually encountered one. Place and city will suffice. What can I say, I’m scatalogical, but my weak stomach prevents me from using public bathrooms, so I would like to live vicariously through other posters.

Yale and Harvard football game at Yale. The Yale Bathrooms outside the stadium are the most atrocious bathrooms I’ve ever encountered. Not only are the urinals just simply the walls [yes you pee on the wall] but the damn graffitti in it is all gramatically correct! Can’t they at least swear with some umph!

The single toilet in the tiny russian airport of Ocha. I don’t think it had been cleaned since the Breznyev era.

My friend’s alcoholic mother’s home in suburban Chicago. Toilet didn’t work, feces on the walls and floor. Dead rodents at times. NEVER any toilet paper. Used toilet paper on floor. Had the authorities known, she would have been locked up most likely. Eventually the house was torn down.

Years later, she died in a house fire. She passed out while smoking.

While the BPL’s bathroom has long been a disgrace (there’s only one public bathroom for the enormous two-building complex! so if you’re working in the Art Library or the Rare Book Room you’ve gotta run down several flights and into the basement of the next building! And it’s super-gross! And homeless people come as close to living there as they can.), it can’t hold a candle to the public rest room at the old North Station, before they tore it down a couple of years ago. I’ve actually used the one at the BPL, but there’s no way I’d use the one at North Station.

Jeezus! I would have hated to flush that toilet. Remember cecil’s article on that…{{{{shudder}}}}

I think someone would plunge it once in a while, but it never flushed. It was disgraceful.

In a roadside diner in the former Yugoslavia .
It was so bad that the locals stopped using it and the area around the diner and toilet became an outside toilet.
The actual diner itself appeared to be reasonably clean but Idid’t feel very hungryat the time strangely enough.

Various bathrooms in India. The one in the Mumbai airport stands out as particularly loathsome. I will admit, however, that my impressions were heavily colored by cultural expectations of what one should find in a bathroom. For instance, I generally demand that my bathrooms contain (i) a toilet, and (ii) toilet paper. Most public bathrooms in India have neither. In place of a toilet, there is a hole in the floor. (The hole is often nicely dressed in porcelain, but it is, still, a hole.) In place of toilet paper, there is a confusing array of hoses and buckets.

After two weeks in India, I never did figure out how the locals went about cleaning themselves. It was not a matter we could comfortably ask our hosts about. (At a minimum, I never could figure out how they used those hoses and buckets without drenching their pants, given that the whole procedure would presumably be carried out while squatting inches above the aforementioned hole.)

We carried our own toilet paper.

Didn’t know we could bring this out of the US. If that counts, when the wife and I were in Ecuador, we stopped at a smallish restaurant…ok pig roasting over fire with some stumps for tables…and asked where the bathroom was. Old guy pointed a rickety finger and said in spanish: …‘round back’ I remember walking over a very lump walkway to a makeshift wall. round the back of the wall was a hole. All the bumps I walked over to get to the wall…yep - those were the covered up holes…

Well the one in Trainspotting of course.

Oh you mean in person? Well the one at CBGB’s has to mentioned. Although that’s less feces on the wall then needles (and no doubt semen) on the floor.

God I miss that bathroom. CBGB’s R.I.P

May I readjust the OP to one choice in the US and one outside the US, if needed.

Hands down, the men’s shared bathroom at the Maison des Jeunes, a dormitory/hostel in Bamako, Mali. Rows of squat toilets, filth literally everywhere – it looked like it hasn’t been cleaned since the place has been built and had seen a few unpleasant epidemics of dysentery in the meantime.

In the US, I will second the men’s room at CBGB’s. It looks like they cleaned it up before this photo.

Veterans Stadium - Philadelphia (Now thankfully imploded. – Veterans Stadium, not Philadelphia!)

Battery Park in New York.

Wow. Those pictures make it look like Vegas. It diffeniatly didn’t look like Vegas.

My officeuse to have a rooming house full of crackheads. Nuff said.

Sbarro’s restaurant in the mall of a midsized midwestern city. plastered walls, dripping streaks. I notified the unlucky counter person and then we were out there, out of the mall, and out of that city!

second worse was the master bath in a miami beach condo on NY Eve Party c. 1986. There was a reason why the owner insisted I wait until the guest bath was unoccupied. I didn’t wait for that and lets just say there was an interesting wad texture to the bad gold lame wallpaper!

This is a picture of the soap scum from my tub in my old apartment. I think it looks like Jesus. Few agree. :frowning:

The worst I’ve been in were the port-a-potties at a college rugby tournament, which was held on a stinking hot, pouring-down-rainy day. You couldn’t tell the mud from the poop and the stench was unbelievable.

The second worst was the bathroom of one of my husband’s friends. There wasn’t any feces, but the places was covered in mold and infested with spiders. We got off a long haul flight and went to this friend’s place. All I wanted was a shower and I almost declined, but went ahead because this was going to be my only options for a few days.
