Where online can I read lots of daily comic strips?

I’ve had a “build your own” comics page through chron.com for a long time, where you checked off the strips you wanted to read and it would build a customized comics page. If you bookmarked it you could come back to it each day and it would display that days worth of strips. It was awesome, and it appears they have discontinued it with their new site redesign. :frowning:

Can someone point me to somewhere I can read a bunch of daily comic strips online? I know there are sites where you can read individual ones, or maybe a handful at a time, but this was just super handy having them all in one place. Any suggestions for a replacement are greatly appreciated.

I use www.gomics.com, which has a very large collection of comics available and lets you set up a free account with a My Comics page. I’ve got it set up with a bunch of comics that my local paper doesn’t carry.

I too was disappointed that the Chronicle couldn’t continue the custom comics page, too, but I also had Go Comics for the ones they didn’t carry. Advantage to GoComics was the ability to get them on Sunday, as well.

But you’re limited to only one strip per page (unlike the Chronicle’s 8) on the MyComics thing, (you need to click an icon for each different strip) and given all the damn Flash ads (why else would they have you go to a new page for each different strip?) it can be slow to load.

But hell, it’s free, and I feel like an ingrate for complaining about free.

(I also wonder why The Comics Curmudgeon hasn’t mentioned this. After all, he IS a curmudgeon, and as far as I know he gets most of his strips from there.)

Your link lacks an important letter. Unless we’re talking about two different sites, I think you mean www.gocomics.com.

I think Lurkmeister is referring to GoComics.
The link he gives above, gomics.com, is for a bunch of animated thingies to introduce text messages. They want your cell phone number, and it probably makes a text message more expensive to send/receive!

Simulpost!

There are a lot at Yahoo! News:

One strip per page? I have seven comics selected, and they all show on the same page (well, one of them is a Saturday-only strip, so it only shows up on Saturday). I haven’t noticed any particular problem with slow loading, either, although I have Adblock so I don’t see any ads anyway.

I ran into this because I was using the Chron’s BYO, too. I just set up pages at GoComics and at Comics Kingdom (which has the soap strips GoComics doesn’t have that Josh features all the time at the 'Mudge (Judge Parker, Rex Morgan, Mark Trail, Mary Worth, etc.)).

That’s because he’s always ragging on the SAME. FIVE. STRIPS. I haven’t been there in about two months, so, before I go back, I am predicting the first page will have

Beetle Bailey
Gil Thorp
Shylock Fox
Funky or Crankshaft
Mary Worth &/or other soap strips

Yep, right as rain. You’d think that some other strips would be rag-worthy (like Garfield), but I guess not.

You forgot Arlo and Janis.

If you don’t mind dark humor in a sci-fi setting (think of very dysfunctional Star Trek) try Schlock Mercenary. The early artwork was pathetic, but the story lines have always been pretty good.

My favorite strip:

Actually, CIDU Bill mentions A&J much more often than Josh does. I can’t even remember the last time the main blog entry (as opposed to the comments) at the 'Mudge even mentioned A&J.

:smack: Misread the OP.

Nevermind.

This. I used to actively go to an online Seattle paper to get my comic, because I liked the paper enough to give them the clicks. When the site suddenly started with the full-page annoyance ads, I dropped them and go to gocomics. They’ve always been great.

There are thousands of web-only comics.

And many SDMB Threads that link to them.

Try Girl Genius.

How do you do this on gocomics? I used to have this set-up on u click, but they stop featuring personal pages. (I think because they merged with gocomics or something)

The way gocomics is set-up you have one strip, with a line of five icons for the next five strips in your feed above it. You need to click on each icon for the next strip (or, as I do, open the next ones in a new tab whilst waiting for the page to load.)

Anyway, do tell.

I don’t remember doing anything specific, postcards. I used to use comics.com, and some time earlier this year they were apparently bought out by gocomics.com, so I opened a free account there. After I did that I set up a My Comics page, which let me select any comics I was interested in, and now when I go to my home page each of the full strips are on the right side of the page, in the order I selected them.

They haven’t been set up like that (since Lurkmeister snuck in as I was posting, I mean postcards’ one-strip-per-page) since the merger with comics.com.

Unless that’s a result of my free upgrade to pro that came with the merger.

Thanks all.

I got a free GoComics account but I only see the comics listed individually, with a small bar above with a tiny thumbnail of the other ones.

Maybe it’s not available to people with the free accounts, but does anyone know how might I see a page with all of them (or at least some of them) instead of having to click through for each one?

I get a daily comics email from gocomics, through “My Comics Page”. Have to sign up as a member to get this, though. (the email comes from “MyComicsPage.com”)
