Where the hell is he? (Cat-related)

I’ve got a fridge kitty. Drives me nuts. I didn’t see her jump in once and she was in there a good half hour before I noticed her.

I have another kitty that has a secret hiding place that we’ve been unable to figure out. We’ll look all over the house and actually start thinking that maybe she got out. Then suddenly she’ll appear!

Neither of my current cats have favourite hiding places, though the one hates hates hates closed doors. She will sit and meow for hours at a closed door; this is especially annoying because we don’t let them into the dining room unless we are in there, since we don’t want them on that table/scratching those chairs.

I forget who told me the story (or did I read it here?) about a cat that had gotten up into the floating ceiling of a room, and one evening, one of the panels gave way and the cat just dropped down right in front of the man’s face. He was terrified!

We had a cat when I was young that used to hide in the ceiling in the basement. It wasn’t totally finished, so she could get from the unfinished “den” onto the ceiling panels of the finished rooms down there, and just walk around or sleep. She’d occasionally meow from there, which was equally disturbing for the people in the basement as it was for those in the kitchen, because they’d end up arguing about whether or not she was upstairs or downstairs!

When I was about 4 or 5, my family’s cat went missing. After a while of looking for him (I have to admit I’m a bit vague on the actual timeline here), my mother thought she heard a faint meow coming from the chimney, so she went to investigate. The damper was closed, and when she opened it, out dropped the cat! No one’s quite sure how he got up there, but we kind of figure he decided to go check out the fireplace (it was summer, so no fear of getting singed), climbed up on top of the damper, and his weight made it close. No pictures of this cat, at least not in digital format, but he looked a lot like Bookkeeper’s Nixie.
