Tonight we are passing through SLC and staying at the Royal Garden Inn, 154 West 600 South. We have been advised to not eat there, so where should we eat? It should be within walking distance for older people, please.
For the future reference of others, I had a good meal at the restaurant in the RL hotel across the road.
Disclaimer: I haven’t been in Salt Lake city in ages, now. Everything I know is hopelessly out of date.
That said, you’re not all that far from Trolley Square (600 south and 700 East – so it’s a five block walk, if they’re up to it). Trolley Square, built in what used to be the barn that housed Salt Lake City’s trollies, has been a shopping area for decades now, and has always boasted restaurants.
I see that The Spaghetti Factory, which was there when I lived a couple of blocks away, is still going, as are some other restaurants. And after you eat, you can wander through the mall and window-shop. Sam Weller Books (a Salt Lake City classic in its own, that used to be on the main drag) is there, too!
Thanks but we are now on our way out. By the time we had finished eating it was dark.
Btw on the way we stopped for lunch in Kemmerer. A diner called Ham’s Fork. The single chef and lone waiter coped admirably with the whole coachload of us.
I see you’ve already dined, but if there’s a next time…we had a great meal at the Red Iguana last time we were there. It absolutely lived up to the hype. We went on a weekday evening and the wait was not too long.
I’ve eaten there many times. Great food. Lines at lunch, too.
Don’t forget to sample the fabulous tipica Mormon cuisine!
I often hop on the subway and travel to Manhattan’s famed Mormon District to indulge my cravings for Miracle Whip and white bread!
Don’t forget Green Punch.
And follow it all with Snelgrove’s ice cream!
