I’ll be passing thru Daytona Beach next week. Just looking for a few restaurant recommendations. Any non-chain fare is welcome, but places with decent food and great t-shirts is the best.
I have never been to Daytona but I know where I would go. The speedway!
There is no decent local food in Daytona Beach. It is a place that caters to it’s citizens: old people who need bland diets at very cheap prices. And that’s exactly what you’ll find: cheap food with no taste.
Stick to the chains, you’ll be thankful you did.
@#!% apostrophes!
During bike week we used to eat at a place called Oyster Pub.
Pretty good food.
I just looked and they have a website. Hope that doesn’t ruin it for you.
I went to mechanics school in Daytona, back in '86 (AMI, go ahead and ask me what it stands for!) Obviously, it’s been a while.
It’s not a restaurant, but Rat’s Hole is fairly cool as far as tourist traps go. Karl Smith, aka Big Daddy Rat, was a Sixties Icon and the man who made Bike Week a success. You would be remiss if you didn’t at least drop by his place and get a shirt. Beyond that, the biker bars used to be on Main, but the town has changed a lot since I was there. I couldn’t recommend any good restaurants back then, and I won’t do it now.
One more thing, you might want to stop by the speedway on your way into and/or out of the town. Car and bike manufacturers often rent out the speeday, and admission used to be free unless they were doing confidential work. On the other hand, you might want to turn onto 278 at St. Augustine for a run down the coast (Dopers, is it still as pretty, or have they developed it all?)
You mean A1A? It’s pretty developed, especially from Beverly Beach on down to Ormond.
Go north on A1A until you see Mitchell’s on the left… before you get to the Ormond pier.
…at least, I think that’s the correct directions and establishment name.
