I’ll be in Chicago for training the week of the Superbowl. I’m looking for recommendations of a good place to watch the game. I’ll be staying a block from ESPNZone but I’d rather see it where I’d get more of a local Chicago flavor.
Sounds like you’ll be staying downtown, so Rush and Division is close by and bar central and will probably be pretty rowdy. I tend to stay away from there these days since there also tend to be a lot of wasted assholes stumbling around as well. My favorite area is North Clark Street around Wrigley Field. Tons of sports bars for blocks and the people are prettier.
Of course if that’s not your speed you could always head to McGee’s or Joe’s on Weed for the closest thing to actually being at the game. Utter and complete pandemonium is to be expected in two of the most TV saturated bars in the city. The crowd at McGee’s will be young and hot, the crowd at Joe’s will be more of the yuppie group and still plenty hot.
McGees would be pretty fun in a loud and drunk and college sort of way. I’ve never had a bad time there.
I’ve had some pretty good times at Kincades. On sundays, they had 25 cent wings which I had as recently as a few weeks ago but I don’t see them on the website list of specials. The crowd is very Chicago with zero pretension.
I watched Super Bowl XX on Division Street exactly 21 years ago today. There are many bars along that one-block strip that will be packed to the rafters with Bears fans and hot chicks (some of whom are also Bears fans.)
