Number looks like the top of Enchanted Rock.
Palouse Falls within Palouse Canyon?
The funny thing is I took a wild ass guess that that was somewhere near the ancient Lake Missoula just because of the dramatic nature of the scenery and that you are hanging out somewhere in the Pacific Northwest.
I looked up Lake Missoula images and the first hit that matched it was Answers in Genesis, which I find amusing in some weird way.
Some missile silo near Wall, South Dakota?
Darryl Lict: right on both counts.
Palouse Falls, at 186 feet, is a spectacular geological sight, especially with that large plunge pool at the bottom and the canyon leading out to the river. This knucklehead kayaked off the damn thing. That whole Glacial Lake Missoula topography is fascinating to me. It doesn’t get a ton of visitors, as the road in is two lane and not near any freeways, but worth the trip.
Minuteman missile site in South Dakota. They’ve been deactivated and you can tour this one.
The distant bunting at top left looks like United Arab Emirates flags (red, green, white, black) but the orange and white and crosses on the other flags are confusing me.
Is it Dubai or Abu Dhabi or somewhere like that?
These two still haven’t been guessed:
Ba, Fiji.
I’ve been to Fiji, but not to this particular town.
Impressive sleuthing! I tried Googling to see if I could figure it out if I didn’t know, and thought it would be tricky.
I see that the giant football is no longer a bar. Shame. (The pic was taken 10 years ago, in February 2003.)
You’ve got the colors right, but no, not United Arab Emirates-- Actually, the “top” stripe is different between these flags and “your” flag, and the red is in the shape of a triangle in my flag.
I can’t explain the orange and white flags. (pauses, peeks at wikipedia). Oh, wait. a small clue–it’s yellow, not orange, and it isn’t a country, but it is something of influence in the place I was, although that might be a bit of a red herring.
Not Dubai, but yes, in the Middle East.
And since you probably can’t tell–let me give you another clue. I believe that the following people have their pictures on various flags in that image: Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and Yasser.
Right - I had narrowed it down to UAE, Palestine or Jordan, but the resolution wasn’t great!
So, Palestine - and that is the Mosque of Omar in Manger Square, Bethlehem.
I should have thought of the Holy Land, what with the crosses and the minarets…
Are the yellow and white flags of the Vatican?
Manger Square, Bethlehem is correct.
The yellow and white flags are the flag of the Catholic Church–the Vatican City flag is also yellow and white, but has a fancy cross emblem thingy on it.
I was there in late December 1995, and the Palestinians had just been given authority over Bethlehem, so the decorations struck me as fascinating, because of the juxtoposition of pictures of Yasser Arafat with pictures of Jesus (with and without Mary, with and without Joseph).
My still unguessed location:
81. taken
And a pictorial clue, taken from someplace else I visited while staying in the same hotel:
It’s still not a great picture, but at least it shows a potentially identifiable geographic feature.
Well, it worked like this:
I know Allens Confectionery is an Aus/NZ brand, but the people in the photo looked Indian. The cross-culture that matches is Fiji, as there are many Fijian-Indians, and because I’d been there it also looked somewhat familiar. But then the clincher came when I googled the only shop front name I could read, which was Maneklal In Style.
Is it taken in Kirstenbosch Gardens, Cape Town?
Yes.
Damn, I’ve been to Fiji, and I had no clue.
What, no guesses?
Hints:
90-93 are all in America.
90 is on the property of an iconic American author.
Edgar Allan Poe in Baltimore?
Mozambique Island?
Tirana Pyramid, Albania
Nope, newer. That’s not a raven.
