Where's a good place to get a cheap recliner?

I use recliners as computer chairs since I spend so much time in them I might as well be comfortable. I broke my last one recently and I really have no idea where to go to get a new one, wondering if anyone had advice.

I just need a generic recliner, something like this. Nothing fancy.

I’m hoping to spend $300 or under, although that may be on the low side I realize unless I can find some sort of post-Christmas sale. Who would most likely have the most significant sale?

oh man…I wouldn’t go buy new. I would look on craigslist and find a really nice recliner for waaay under $300!

If you don’t mind driving out to Portland, I have a beautiful leather recliner (swivel rocker) made by Barcalounger. It’s a couple of years old, but in great condition. Dark brown, top-grain leather. i have to make room for the new couch and it’s got to go NOW. So $300 is just lovely (it was $1200 new).

Big Lots. My baby brother has purchased one or two from them and has been pretty happy with them.

No offense to anyone intended, but I personally would feel a little wary of buying used furniture because of the bedbug issue. I used to think nothing of picking up stuff off the street & bringing it home, but I had an infestation in my home & now I’m one of those paranoids about it! Though I guess even factory new stuff could have them too.
Ok, I’ll shut up now, carry on! (twitching)

I bet your local Goodwill will have one.

Maybe. Recliner mechanisms are kinda easy to break, though. Still, $300 should be able to get you a new recliner SOMEwhere. I spent about a hundred on one in (IIRC) 1986 at the Hickam AFB Exchange.

Ikea?

Isn’t Ikea for wood furniture you put together yourself?

I know it’s declasse, but I know people who bought reasonably priced recliners from Sears and been happy.

There are pages and pages of home furnishings for sale in every Pennysaver.

There are lots of new recliners out there for $300, if you don’t mind replacing the chair after a short period of use. Lane makes cheap recliners, but according to online reviews, they’re pieces of crap.

I 2nd biglots. For that price it will be a 2 piece unit you have to assemble but you can easily get an overstuffed recliner for that price. You might want to stay away from the cloth kind because of static electricity if you’re using it with a computer.

I’ve never bought a recliner from Big Lots, but we’ve bought other furniture there that we’ve been perfectly happy with. It’s not what you’d call ‘upscale’, but quite serviceable, and good quality for what you pay.

I would avoid (like the plague) Value City Furniture. Their furniture is no cheaper than Big Lots (probably no more expensive, either, to be fair), but it’s crap, ime.

Plus, the salespeople at Value City Furniture obviously work on commission, as they are pushy and obnoxious. This doesn’t seem to be true for Big Lots.

As for the bed bug issue, I can understand being paranoid about it if you’ve already had an infestation, but lets face it, you can get an infestation of bed bugs from sitting in a recliner (trying it out) in a furniture store where someone else who had an infestation has sat. If you think too hard about that, you’ll probably burn all your furniture, rip up your carpeting, and spend the rest of your life sitting on milk crates!

What kind of recliner did you have before? I’d be careful about buying used. You don’t know how the recliner was used before.

Have you thought of ordering online? You won’t have to worry about bed bugs since it’s new and hasn’t been touched. I searched for recliners on Google and I saw some recliners online for $299 and they included free shipping. Check out the recliner options at Wholesale Furniture Brokers. That’s where I saw them.
