Where's Eve?

Haven’t seen her post in a while. Every time an old celebrity kicks off, she’s usually quick to post a witty send off.

Any clues?

Started a new job where she wouldn’t be online; plus working on a new book, I think.

I knew she had a new job (archiving photos?), but I didn’t know she was writing a new book.

Yes, she’s working on a biography of Vernon and Irene Castle. I was just thinking yesterday how sad it’s been that Eve hasn’t been around lately.

She’s been around (I’ve seen her green light on), but nothing’s apparently been of interest for her to post.

Also, her computer is currently detonated. It will be fixed tomorrow. I hope.

slight hijack–is that what that means?

Thank you!
Hope to see Eve around here soon.

I was just thinking about her the other day myself. I hope she’s able to return soon.

If, when you are reading a thread the little button to the right of a poster name is green that means they are online and logged onto the Dope. If it is grey they aren’t.

Where’s Eve?

She’s on assignment south of the border doing a piece for Escape From America Magazine tracking down historic photos ofCuba before the fall in her spare time! Cuba! Socialism and cocktails! Assignations with shady characters at the Hotel Nacional. Gin and tonics with Xavier at the Canalcubano! Arroz con pollo to die for! Cockfighting under torchlight! It’s all madness, madness I tell you, but she wouldn’t trade it for the world!

Indeed it is . . . Still alive, and E-Sabbath is here, fixing my computer, sweetheart that he is. Heck has indeed been poppin’, with the new job, the new, book, Mom’s health, etc., etc., keeping me from posting and surfing . . .

Good to see you’re still with us.

[nitpick]Not necessarily. We had a discussion about this is some other thread, but anyway, I tested it out using my computer and my husband’s - I never log out of the Dope. When I shut my computer completely down, then checked on the Dope from my husband’s computer (where I am not logged in), it shows that I am still online. I also tried it at my FILs over Christmas vacation. It showed I was logged in, though I hadn’t used that computer to do so. However, back at home, mine was logged in, but my computer was off.[/nitpick]

Not that it matters greatly, but there you go.

Unless someone has been moonlighting as me? But who the hell would want to do* that*? (No, no one knows my password but me. Not even the husband knows.)

Oh, and good to see Eve, as well. There has been such a notable lack of Eve-ness around lately. That’s never a good thing, by my standards.

Hi, Eve. Miss you when you don’t post.

Well, not posting for both good and bad reasons. My new job, as a photo archivist (despite the huge salary cut and almost total lack of sick/vacation days) keeps me busy and interested (but not that awful frenzied magazine-deadline “busy-ness”). Pulling, researching, scanning and databasing old photos of everything from silent-movie stars (real finds: Myrtle Gonzales and Lucille Ricksen!) to '80s hair bands to last night’s film premiere to '50s British quota-quickie film stills.

Then when I get home, I have to work, work, work on the new book, which I am supposed to have to the publisher by this summer!

And Mom is in failing health, mentally and physically. I spend about one weekend a month with her in The Home, and am in charge of all her financial and medical affairs, which is time-consuming and exhausting. I am not going to whine about that, though, there are so many people here with dying parents or spouses or children, and really, when you’re middle-aged, dealing with dying parents is just one of those things one does.

So, thus my absence of late.

I too had noticed that we were living in an Eve-less SDMB, and regretted it. I hope you’re able to come back on a more regular basis soon.

I’d been noticing your absence for quite a while too, Eve. Good to have you back. (FYI, your email is not receiving; at least, it wasn’t a few weeks ago.)
