Where's Q.E.D.?

(I’m not sure if this is the right place for this question, but since he’s a member of the SDSAB–I think—and this seemed at least as good a place as any, here goes.)

Does anyone know what’s up with Q.E.D.? I’ve always enjoyed his posts as among the most accurate and interesting on the board, but he hasn’t posted in more than two months.

Is he okay? Just taking a break? Decided he has better things to do than fight our ignorance? Given up on us?

I miss him.

His profile says he was last active only a week ago. I don’t know what that suggests.

He might be on vacation.

In other news, how come nobody misses me when I go on vacation?

I’ve been wondering the same thing. He could usually be counted on to post in GQ several times a day. I assumed that he just didn’t renew his membership for whatever reason. If that’s the case, his insights will be missed.

His last post was on April third, 2005.

Thirteen posts per day! I think I spend too much time here, and I’ve only got an average of 1.88 posts per day. (I joined about the same time as Q.E.D.

That’s not the issue. He’s SDSAB; we’re comped.

Derleth! Thank God you posted! We missed you.
Hey everybody, Derleth’s back!

everybody: “Deeeeeerleth!”

happy?

Well, since you’re both on the SDSAB, spill. Where is he?

Derleth who?

Why don’t y’all try writing QED an e-mail? His address is public. Might be more productive than asking and speculating here.

Well, I don’t know him, except from here, and if he’s dealing with some personal emergency or something, I wouldn’t want to intrude with my idle inquiry. I thought that someone who knows him better might know what’s up.

Thank you, BMalion.

Shut up, commasense.

Because wild speculation is more fun.

I e-mailed him a week or so ago. He says, “Hey.”

FTR, he no longer has SDSAB under his name. It says Charter Member.

I didn’t ask him what or why, just said Hey myself. Sometimes people just get a little burnt out on certain favorite things. Maybe that’s what’s going on with him and the Dope.

“comped”?
What’s “comped”?

Back formation of “given as a compliment.” Means they don’t have to pay for membership.

It’s not taken from ‘compensated’?

Actually, it comes from “complementary,” meaning free of charge, as opposed to “complimentary,” which refers to praising.

No, Marley23 was right. Complimentary means without charge. Complementary means completing, like a complementary angle completes 90 degrees.
