The button at the top of the edit box with the [“] icon between the chain link (insert url) icon and the upload icon works exactly like it always did since we came to Discourse. It just inserts a \> symbol and leaves the cursor next to it so you can type up (or paste in) something you’re quoting from a source other than another Dope post.
If you’re clicking that [“] button for another use case that is wrong and was always wrong.
So, what’s the exact remedy?
By design in HTML paragraphs have some vertical whitespace between them. Not necessarily typewriter-like “double spacing”, but some.
If you want two separate paragraphs of separately word-wrapping text with no extra vertical space between, toggle the editor from A WYSIWYG mode to M Markdown mode and it’ll work like you’re used to. In M mode you can add or remove blank lines as you please.
