Well on Monday I got my last wisdom tooth removed. It was a doozy coming in all sideways and stuff. I went to the oral surgeon at 9:30. They strapped on the nitrous mask (did not have the effect I was told, but that’s okay) and plugged me into the IV. After 5 minutes or so of the IV, I was a goner. As promised in the pre-surgery literature, I recall nothing of the actual surgery. Before I knew it, my wife was helping me to the car. Got home and took a four hour nap. When I woke up, my pain medicine was waiting for me (Vicodin, woo hoo!). I also have to take amoxicillin for a week. I’m trying to avoid using the Vicodin unless absolutely necessary (like before I go to bed). There’s only some slight swelling, but I’m glad the whole thing is done. Pity I didn’t have dental insurance, though. In the past seven months, my years of dental neglect have cost me over $2100!
Congrads on it going so well. I had mine removed a few months ago and got off lucky in that I never needed more then a couple of IB Profin the first day.
When you were talking about the dental neglect you weren’t speaking of your wisdom teeth were you? Because those often have to come out whether you take care of your teeth or haven’t seen a dentist since you were 6.
Well, I went many years without going to a dentist. Why? Can’t give you a good excuse other than the old “if it don’t hurt, it must be OK” syndrome. As for the wisdom teeth, the last dentist I’d gone too told me they would eventually have to come out. At that time, they were still in hiding. I broke of the tip off one last December and that sent me to the dentist. He told me I was lucky to have AS LITTLE damage as I had. I ended up getting a root planing, two tiny cavities fixed and all four wisdom teeth removed. The first three popped right out and it’s as if I never had them. The fourth one, as stated above, came in sideways. It could have been a lot worse, I suppose.
I go to the dentist for check ups, and the last time I had Xrays done to see how the wisdom teeth were doing. Still underneath(at that time), but in the right track, not impacted. So I’ve leave them alone, and now the upper two are half-half between out and covered with gum, while the lower two are still underneath. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, but I will soon go again to the dentist for my regular cleaning and check up.
