So, as we know, or should know, the animal with the longest penis relative to body size is . . . the barnacle.
I’ve seen, and forgotten, answers for ears, wings, tongue, etc., only by chance when reading about the particular beast, not for that claim to fame specifically. I would like to have them more easily accessible.
Which animal has the biggest liver relative to body size?
Please post similar answers or queries that suggest themselves.
Pretty sure it’s not the mulard duck, even if you accept the body alterations that result from the artificial process of gavage. Perhaps the basking shark? Its liver can be 25% of its body size. And if the basking shark isn’t the answer, then I suspect it’s another shark.
Sharks which live in the open ocean (as opposed to those which spend most of their time on the sea floor) use their livers in place of a swim bladder. Those sharks have enormous livers which can be up to a quarter of their body weight which are full of large amounts of lightweight oils. These offset most of the weight of the shark so they don’t have to spend much energy on movement to generate hydrodynamic lift.
