shrieks
Rats, nothing on Amazon or Ebay. Well, at least I’m reminded to play that game again sometime soon. Good times…
“The Mason Williams Phonograph Album.” I got it for my bother one Christmas, thinking he might like it. He gave it to me on my birthday. I gave it back to him on Christmas. We did this for a couple of years and I think I ended up stuck with it.
Hey, I have to come in to defend William Shatner. Have you actually heard his recent album? His 1960s stuff from *The Transformed Man * was self-indulgent goofiness that nobody took seriously, but his 2004 release *Has Been * was self-indulgent fun, with great production and songwriting by Ben Folds, and memorable songs ranging from poignant to hilarious. The album has gotten consistent good reviews from reputable music critics, and features tons of credibility-lending guests: Folds, Joe Jackson, Aimee Mann, Henry Rollins, country singer Brad Paisley. I hate to break it to you, but it’s really good, and Shatner can rock out.
My CD collection is a veritable pirate’s chest of Musical Loves That Dare Not Speak Their Names, from Iron Maiden to the Bee Gees. Ronnie James Dio to Bread. :o
I don’t own very many CD’s, but the few I have are in general good taste. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Aerosmith, Green Day, a couple soundtracks, Eagles. But, amongst all that, is a scar on the face of my music collection…Jewel, Pieces of You.
What makes it worse is the reason why I bought it…I’m too embarassed to even write it on a (somewhat) anonymous message board!
My CDs are pretty tame, given my musical tastes. Many people would be embarrassed by my CD collection, but not me.
My cassette collection, on the other hand … every album Poison, Warrant, Skid Row, Motley Crue, L.A. Guns, and Faster Pussycat ever recorded. And I still listen and sing along–though I don’t really want anybody to know.
Guess when I went to high school.
The Maquerena. No shit. What did I win?
:dubious:
Hey, it’s OK. I owned this album too, for a few months back in college. I saw Jewel perform live back when “Who Will Save Your Soul” was first starting to get radio play and she was still largely unknown. It was a free outdor concert, I went with all my college buddies, and we saw this beautiful young woman singing and playing guitar and even yodeling. It was love at first sight.
Of course, after I listened to her album a few times (and especially started paying attention to her lyrics), the love affair was over.
Big fan of Garth and Shania here, and a just-this-side-of-neutral fan of the Backstreet boys; the CD’s I have from those performers is no source of embarassment to me.
I don’t embarass easily and generally don’t care what anyone thinks.
However…
When I have passengers in my car I fervently hope they don’t go flipping through my CD case and find…
the soundtrack to the Josie & the Pussycats movie. :o  :o
It was one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life, but what can I say – I kinda liked the music.
It’s okay, I have it too. We’ll start a therapy group, or something.
And how can you hate a movie with a line like “DuJour means seatbelts!!”
Christmas in the Stars: The STAR WARS Christmas Album, Featuring the Original Cast; R2-D2 & Anthony Daniels as C-3PO
Including that wonderful Holiday Hit… What Can You Get A Wookiee For Christmas (When He Already Owns A Comb?)
Lead Vocals by John Bongiovi (who later in life became Jon Bon Jovi)
I am so ashamed.
Like others here I am not embarrassed by any of my music. I also have Best of Cher and Jewel’s Pieces of You and I like them. Best of Cher is good for when I’m cleaning the house because the fast songs keep me moving.
I have a Kenny G and Neil Diamond Christmas albums, but I was in Columbia House at the time and forgot to send my response card in and then forgot to send them back. I should have more bad music for that reason because I was really bad about that. But they’re Christmas music and they might come in handy some Christmas … eventually.
I suppose people might raise their eyebrows at my Bagpipes and Drums of Scotland but I happen to like bagpipe music and I make no apologies for it. Should anyone ridicule me for that I may just move next door to them and try to learn to play the bagpipes. That’ll teach them.
I was a huge Stranglers fan–still am as a matter of fact. But, I remember being embarrassed FOR the Stranglers when I bought their tenth album, cleverly called “10.” It was a horrible, awful, serious lapse in judgment, and one which signaled the end of the original lineup. I just saw it this morning as I was looking for something cool to take along to my morning basketball game, and I believe I winced involuntarily.
So we played basketball to the cool strains of Booker T. and the MG’s.
I used to be embarassed by the ABBA greatest hits CD, but ever since Mama Mia, ABBA is retro-chic.
The Michael Jackson Thriller CD should be an embarassment - I still enjoy his 80s music, so pfft.
The first Spice Girls CD will have to be The One.
Not embarrassed, but a few of my soundtracks need some explaining, because even though the movies Cutthroat Island or Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde or The Beautician and the Beast may have sucked big time, the original scoring is actually quite good.
Robbie Williams - The Ego Has Landed
Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals. I love “Rock Is Dead”. hangs head in shame
Nik Kershaw- the Riddle
Other people seem embarrassed by my immense collection of Pet Shop Boys albums, but I’ve very proud of them. I’m also not ashamed of my Smashing Pumpkins collection, even though I’m no longer an angst-ridden teenager. I just like Billy’s voice, it’s entertaining. Oh, and all my KMFDM and MDFMK albums. Of all these I am proud, but I have been told by many that I should be embarrassed. Ah, well.
Hey, embrace your inner headbanger! Hell, I’ve seen half of those bands live (and Sebastian Bach when he played Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar… ). And own CDs by all of 'em.
That will be QUITE enough disparaging comments about Neil Diamond, thank you very much!
I’m torn…it could be two, not sure which takes the prize for most embarassing though. A vote perhaps?
Contender #1
Shaq Diesel
Contender #2
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Soundtrack…The one with a couple Vanilla Ice songs.
Can’t say they get any rotation anymore, but when I bought them I was probably old enough to know better.
I saw him in Jekyll & Hyde. And a couple years ago, I gleefully bought tickets to the GLAM SLAM METAL JAM–Poison, Warrant, Quiet Riot and … Enuff Z’Nuff. But thankfully, I don’t own their album.
