Which Character Would You Give A Spin Off Show To?

I’ve been enjoying old episodes of Frasier on library DVDs, and I could totally get behind that (although not with that title). If they brought back both David Hyde Pierce and Jane Leeves as Niles and Daphne, there’d be great opportunities to explore their lives together, Niles’s fussy parenting of their young kids (their eldest would be six now), his psychiatric practice, etc. Would Daphne continue to work as a physical therapist? Dunno, but I’d love to find out. Other Frasier cast members could make cameos now and then, too.

I would love to watch Jane Leeves read the Tulsa phone book…

Spike from Buffy/Angel is a pretty obvious one to me.

“Cup o’tea, cup o’tea, almost got shagged, cup o’tea.”

The Adventures of Sam Axe before Michael Westen was burned.

The Delightful Chronicles of Doctor Barber!

Matt Groening has said that Phil Hartman really wanted to do some sort of project revolving around Troy McClure. In an alternate universe where Phil is still alive, I hope this has come to fruition.

There have been a couple of suggestions here for spin offs with characters from The Office. I have one too. That show has just so much potential.
I’d like to see a show about Holly Flax, the HR woman from the 5th season. It would be kind of like a bizarro-version of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, where she’d spend each episode not helping with anyone’s problems in the slightest, with boundless enthusiasm and a warm smile. Also, a clear lack of rugged frontiersmen with impeccably done hair would probably be in order.

Randy Disher should have his own show as a small town Sheriff.

I so hope they actually do a series really based on Kathy Reichs’s Temperance Brenner books.

Reichs has said she considers the current series a “prequel” to her books, with a younger Brenner. But the books are much better than the fluff of a series and could carry their own series.

Bernadette from Big Bang Theory. Not that it would make a great show, but she is as cute as a button.

Or Leslie Winkle.

The Adventures of Jenna Maroney.

I think almost any of the characters from Firefly would have a following in a spin-off, just because the fans are all so hungry for any scraps of anything.

If Aaron Sorkin ever wants to return to writing about politics, I’d love to see what Ainsley Hayes (from The West Wing) is up to…

The scientists from Better off Ted

Comedy gold.

Andy Bernard from The Office. He’s one of my favorite characters on tv.

Before Jane Lynch went to Glee, she had a recurring role as a therapist on Two and a Half Men. The sarcasm was nicely balanced with humor and just enough sympathy.

I think a spinoff with Holland Taylor would have been fun too. She plays Alan and Charlie’s mother, a real estate agent with a sharp tongue, several dead husbands, and a penchant for wealthy men.

I thought someone would mention Abby Scuito, and began to mention her myself, but in fact I don’t think so. Pauley Perrette is funny as hell and cute as a button, but Scuito requires Gibbs to play off of.

I’ll pitch my concept for a spinoff/crossover Superhero show:

Neil Patrick Harris is Dr. Horrible. His new arch-nemesis is Dr. OCD (Sheldon Cooper) and his team, Koothrapali and Wolowitz. They’ve been recruited out of academia to stop Dr. Horrible. However, Wolowitz is a double agent, moonlighting as Moist with Dr. Horrible.

Dr. Horrible and Dr. OCD are conflicted when a third super-science team appears, funded by a shadowy corporation: The Veridian Duo, Lem Hewitt and Phil Myman. They think they’re good, but they’re actually on the side of evil.

The groups clash, and hilarity ensues.
