That’s too bad you didn’t get to go. I understand that if you need a diamond car with a platinum wheel, he’s the guy to see.
I was at Roy Rogers…No sorry that was Kenny Rogers’.
In 1972, I rented a bicycle to Dick Sargent.
Funny thing about that. An hour later, the bike was returned by Dick York…
In 1976, I forced the Black Spot into the hands of William Allen Young (these days appearing in Code Black on CBS).
In 1987, Stevie Wonder snagged some post-concert restorative facetime with my wife’s guide dog.
In 2008, I got Joey Fatone to call my daughter and say “Hey.”
Dale Davis, Derrick McKey, Larry Bird, and Isiah Thomas, all during their affiliation with the Indiana Pacers.
I have the Puppini Sisters on my Pandora feed.
Most spankable boo-tay on all the inhabited planets. I hope I never meet him because I don’t know that I could without smacking it.
Either you are short or your memory is hazy.
He’s listed at 5"11’ which shows in thispicture. Letterman is listed as 6"2’ and Carson at 5"10’.
I worked in theatre for a long time. So I’ve had conversations with:
Penn and Teller
Neil Patrick Harris
S. Epatha Merkerson
Robert Hays
David Morse
Mandy Patankin spoke at my MFA graduation.
A bunch of hockey players including Mike Dunham and Paul Karyea.
George Mitchell
And my favorites were when I got to meet Gonzo the Great and Rizzo the Rat to make sure they could fit in the places we were building for them.
Alan Parsons (several times)
Ian Bairnson
Stuart Elliott
Alice Cooper
Jim Butcher
Richard Kadrey
Chuck Palahniuk
Richard Hatch (from Battlestar Galactica, back when I was a teenager)
Michael Stackpole (several times)
Timothy Zahn
James Doohan
Love them…they played at American Music Theater here in Lancaster a few years ago and I got to gush at them after the concert.
I used to think he was just a twinky dweeb until I met him in person. He has a presence that doesn’t really come through the TV machine.
Many politicos due to my line of work – Bill and Hillary both, Mitt Romney, Ed Rendell and a half dozen other Governors, Jim Sensenbrenner and a squad of other congresscritters.
Also Jim Lovell, Eugene Robinson, Teller (of Penn &)
I’ve seen plenty here in LA, but rarely have met any. Only a handful.
By met I will say at least said hello kris asked for a autograph.
Keri Russell and Scott Speedman- both in Summer 2000 when I and my brother asked for their autograph. They were both on the WB show Felicity.
Robin Williams-also 2000, Fred Segal store on Melrose, asked for autograph.
Halle Berry-just said hi and shook her hand after I could not get pen and paper, 2003
Jojo-teen pop singer, 2006 at Chipotle, asked for an autograph. She had hits like “Get Out, Leave”.
I will close to meeting George Michael in 2004 at CD signing, but our part of the line were not able to since he left. I only say from a few feet.
I saw plenty but never spoke with them. Now when I see one in do not approach. I never had a conversation with a celebrity.
Mostly music folks:
Joan Baez (while heading to our respective gigs)
Entwistle & Daltrey (while in the airport line in Seattle)
Back-stage party with Maria Muldaur and band
Played on and off-stage with two friends from the original ‘Wrecking Crew’
Also Lame (Last AND Least) …I actually have cut Howard Stern off in traffic.
Aww, c’mon! He Drives like your Grandmother! (And YES, that insults your Grandmother.) Six year old children in bumper cars have more behind the wheel talent… and frankly more experience with acceleration…
A lot of them.
My wife changed the way Billie Piper dresses, so that was pretty cool.
I almost forgot, if well-known nature photographers count, I’ve also met Art Wolfe and Thomas Mangelsen.
I have to provide an update to my list. I recall approaching Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates in 2010 and asking it it really was him. We shook hands and I went my own way. He was standing on the sidewalk with two books in his hands, I assume he was waiting for someone.
And since Monday I am serving juror with ROBERT DOWNEY JR. And yes I have some cell phones pics of him, for all you skeptics.
I’m friends with a guy who was in the NFL and is in the HOF. He played during the Steeler glory years.
He hates any kind of recognition, and has a reputation as a curmudgeon. I’ve been with him when a woman approached and asked, “hey, are you . . .?”
And he glared and replied, “how does it change your fucking life if I am?”
And she squeals and hollers to her friends, “it’s him, it’s him!!”
Gene Roddenberry
Dan Rather and a bunch of other CBS reporters whose names I don’t remember.
G Gordon Liddy
Anna-Marie Goddard (Playboy’s 40th Anniversary Playmate)
I once stood next to Jose Feliciano at JFK as he cell-phoned friends to let them know he was back in town. (No, he wasn’t wearing his dark glasses.)
I also got to tell Ted Kennedy to put out his cigar when I was working for the Minnesota Historical Society back in the summer of '84. (The A-hole was standing right in front of a NO SMOKING sign. Who the hell did he think he was?!? )
