Personally, I never cared much for River and her gun wielding ways.
More than that, the character River Song come across as very experienced. She knows things that could truly rock your world. Yes, she is the epitome of “Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know”, but damn, what a ride.

Okay, going as listed, I’d vote for Sarah Jane (Fourth doctor version), Martha Jones, and Amelia Pond
Never liked Blondie McBlonderson (Rose) or Shouty McShrieky (Donna) all that much either, though truth be told, once Donna had mellowed and grown a bit (I think the turning point was the “Planet of the Ood” episode, hearing the infinite sadness of the captive Ood song…)

Yes. Despite having only one series with the Doctor that character developed and matured more than any companion I’ve seen.
Ignoring the hideously biased poll, and only going by the title question, my vote goes Amy, closely followed by Rose and then Martha a distant third (haven’t seen the latest season to comment on the new companion).
I like Alex Kingston, but I didn’t like River Song by the end, she really gets on my wick. And I liked Donna as a Companion, but I wouldn’t want to “shag” her
Pity Lady Christina and Kylie don’t qualify as a companions, though.
