Which G. I. Joe (80s) were you?

Back when I played with my COBRA helicopters, F-14s and had sidewinder missles up the wazzoo I used to LOVE playing with my GI Joe do … fully poseable action figures with kung-fu like grip. Anyway I was always Snow Jow. I can’t recall why but I loved being him. I played him so much all his limbs became loose and eventually fell off. Who were you?

sigh, Snow Job. Did they change him for the new series?

Oh, man. Can anyone outcool Snake-Eyes? I still want to be like him.

I gave the young son of a friend an empty box. “Which Action Man (UK GI Joe) is that, Uncle Alien?”

“Deserter”

I always thought Stalker was cool because he had that jet pack in the opening credits. Of course, Snake Eyes was everyones favorite though…

Bazooka was my favorite. His “military” uniform consisted of a football jersey, helmet, bazoooka and bubble gum. How fucking cool is that?

Yeah Snake Eyes is/was cool, and I always had a soft spot for Sgt. Slaughter, but the greatest GI Joe of all was one from the late 80’s(I forget what year specifically). It was the one that you created yourself. You got to pick his abilities and personality and name him, and they would send you back the figure and one of those little cards they made for every Joe, only with the information you provided inserted. I named mine Cougar, since I’m a huge cat person, and Lion, Tiger etc just sound stupid. Cougar sounds cool though.

Why, the Fridge, of course. Just watch “Celebrity Boxing”, and pretend that Manute Bol is, uh, some freakishly tall COBRA guy.

Stalker, Roadblock, and Beach Head were cool on the Joe side.

Destro and the Dreadnoks were cool on the Cobra side.

What was the name of the “easygoing” typical sailor? Shipwreck, or something like that?

The Baroness

The Baroness

I wanted to be Destro. An evil scientist, military engineer, millionaire arms dealer, owned at least two castles in his own name, two really cool varients on his uniform, his own personal military–The Iron Grenadiers–and* sleeps with The Baroness.

Ghod! He’s got it GOIN’ ON!

Cool! We could have a wicked Joe Dope. We just need more bad guys (since we already got the bad gal).

Yeah, I’m with the majority on this one. Snake Eyes was the man from the get-go. He was silent, ninja, commando, and badass enough to walk across the Arctic for Zod only knows how many miles and attract a wolf (another sign of a true badass) as a companion.

On the other side, I’m going to have to go with Storm Shadow, Destro, and Zartan.

Folks do know that there’s a new G. I. Joe comic book out, right? It picks up several years after the ending of the previous series, and the characters have actually changed and aged. It’s a great read.

Yes. Shipwreck it is, with his parrot Poly. However, I figured you would be more a fan of Steeler, the driver of the Joe tank.

Firefly was also cool on the Cobra side, but don’t forget Cobra Commander himself. To hell with Serpentor.

I also liked Sprirt and his bald eagle, Freedom.

You guys, c’mon now. . .

My list (not in order)
[ul]**
[li] Leatherneck[/li][li] Flynt[/li][li] Roadblock[/li][li] Sergeant Slaugter[/li]**[/ul]

My personal favorite? Roadblock. Any man that can haul a 50-cal machine gun like a light hockey stick is the bomb.

Tripler
Do I still play with 'em? I plead the Fifth.

Roadblock gets extra bonus points for being a gourmet chef when he’s off-duty. Now that’s awesome characterization!

I was never really too big into Joes, simply because I’m more of a Transformers dude, but I could definitely grok where Mainframe was coming from.

And Serpentor lost a lot of respect in the Joe movie when he started yelling “Cobra-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la!” for a battle cry…

I would have to agree with koffing about Storm Shadow, he rocked. I was also a Snake Eyes fan.

The whole back story with them two was cool as well.
