In one, if not both cases, I think she’s being sarcastic.

My mom always wanted to be in the front row. My dad wanted to be in the balcolny. Different churches and religions, but I preferred going with dad for that reason #1.

She must be a baptist.

It’s something like sarcasm in both cases. She’s describing the attitude of the judgemental people from her hometown, and chafing against that attitude. But do they say you should sit in the front row at church, or make sure you go to church but don’t sit in the front row? Depends on which song you listen to.

I do like her music a lot, BTW, which is how I noticed this contradiction.
