The reason I’m curious is I was distractedly watching it, and it took me a while before I could tell they weren’t speaking English instead of the audio quality just being bad. I can’t place it.
They’re really difficult to understand. I thought the little girl’s song began with “a la,” and I thought I heard a “tanto,” and “o,” and a lot of “sh” sounds, so I’ll guess Portuguese.
WAG: Pretty sure it’s Portuguese. It sounds close to Spanish (I think the first girl starts off saying “mumblemumble te gustas” or something close to that) but isn’t quite it, and the amount of “sh” sounds at the end of words is a tell-tale sign.
That is not a Slavic language, and certainly no Russian, so most of Eastern Europe is ruled out. The first bit made me think Portuguese too but overall I think it might be Turkish, perhaps.
Definitely not Romanian. At first I thought it’s a slavic language (mostly due to their accent), but at some point it started sounding like Turkish. Maybe some language from Caucasus (Georgia, Azerbaidjan, …)?
You do know, of course, that Roumanian is not a Slavic language; it is a Romance language like Spanish, French, etc. And Roumanian was in fact my first guess.
I am surprised, usually on the SDMB people positively identify “what language is this?” posts within 3-4 replies. If you held a gun to my head I would guess Farsi, but I’m not sure.
