I find that even within the same art, the quality, training, conditioning, and philosophy vary greatly just from one instructor and school to another. The quality and ability to fit in personality-wise with your instructor and classmates is a far greater value and benefit than the specific style that you choose to study.
I always recommend to sit in for a session or two at several schools in your area, and find one that meshes best with what your personal goals are.
e.g. are your goals self-defense, conditioning, balance and grace, a social group with good friends, a drill camp, a phyical challenge, an intellectual challenge, ritual and tradition, kicking ass…all schools will have their focus on something different, regardless of the style.
