Which movie would get your vote for Best Picture?

The Oscars are today and while the Best Picture is unlike the other categories because the winner is determined by a preferential ballot, not just a plurality, we’re going to keep this survey simple.

So of the 8 Best Picture nominees for tonight’s awards, which one would get your #1 vote?

I have seen all eight films. Roma is my pick.

Interestingly, my number 2 and 3 picks (Leave No Trace and The Wife) were not even nominated.

A very weak field this year, IMO.
mmm

I’ve only see green book. While very good, it’s not anything too special.

I’ve only seen four of them (missing Roma, Vice, Green Book and The Favourite). My vote is for Bohemian Rhapsody. I’ve heard that Roma is the favorite, but I hope it doesn’t win, as it didn’t get a full theatrical release.

I’ve only seen three of the list, but Roma is the standout

I’ve only seen two on the list, but Bohemian Rhapsody has that mass appeal factor that makes the biopic the winner in my estimation. Plus there’s that Golden Globes win.

I voted BlacKkKlansman hoping Spike will get some ‘he deserves one’ votes.

I can’t vote for BoRap. I stand behind no one in my appreciation for Queen. No one at all. But it just wasn’t that good of a movie. It was OK and entertaining but overall it wasn’t that good.

Out of curiousity, why do you say that BoRap wasn’t that good? It was one of the best biopics I’ve seen in a long time. It wasn’t exactly historically accurate, but it told one hell of a story about Freddie and the rise of his band.

Saw all except Roma. Of the nominated, Favourite. Of the non-nominated, animated Spiderman.

A lot of it was the hagiography. It seemed very formulaic and unsurprising. Almost as if it were trying to hammer the ‘look, this is a biopic!’ without actually involving a lot of stakes.

Black Panther - because that’s the only one I’ve seen on the list, to be honest. Meant to see The Favourite, but never got around to it.

I’ve seen them all multiple times except Roma, which I only saw once, and I honestly like all of them. I know it won’t win, but my favorite is BlacKkKlansman.

My favorites, in rough order:

BlacKkKlansman
The Favourite
Black Panther
Vice
Green Book
A Star Is Born
Bohemian Rhapsody
Roma

We can take solace that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse won Best Animated film.

Damn, Green Book sure was a dark horse, especially after Cuaron won best director.

I’ve only seen one of them and that didn’t deserve the prize, so no comment.

Seems the real winner is a controversial choice, though, which I didn’t realise until a few minutes ago with Twitter going a bit crazy over it.

I thought Green Book was a cliche ridden tone deaf mess. I’ve seen them all and this is, in my opinion, the second worst - ahead of Bohemian Rhapsody.

My vote would’ve been The Favourite, but would’ve been okay with Roma or Blackkklansman.

Honestly this is the only one I’ve seen, too, but I’m interested in most of the others, I’ve just not yet gotten around to checking them out, which is a welcome change from most years recently. In the last decade or so I’ve read the list and gone, “I’ve never heard a peep about most of these movies!”

Saw all of them, and correctly picked Green Book as the winner. I was rooting for BoRhap or Roma though I’d have been happy with any other than Vice.

This is the time of year that I realize I have no idea what makes a good movie! I saw them all other than Panther and Vice. Don’t enjoy comic book movies, and have no desire to revisit anything concerning W/Cheney.

Green Book was by far the most entertaining of the ones I saw. Second would likely have been Star.

The Favourite - was glad I saw it, but didn’t really understand what I saw.
Blackkk - was taken out of the story by a lot of the stupidity of the police characters. And some of the scenes highly touted - such as the faces intercut w/ Stokely Carmichael’s speech - struck me as more contrived than moving.
Roma - can appreciate that it was filmed beautifully, and happy it won so many technical awards, but SOOOOO slow.
Bo Rhap - was a HUGE Queen fan in HS. Disappointed they spent so little attention on their 1st 3 albums (my faves.) Questioned how much I accepted the “Freddie as victim of evil gay hangers on” storyline. REALLY loved Queen’s music (especially Brian’s guitar and Freddie’s voice.) Not sure how interesting I found him as a person.

Well then. I just learned a new word: hagiography.
