Well, if I can only pick one, it’s gotta be X-Men: Days of Future Past. I’ve enjoyed all of the earlier ones to varying extents, and the trailer looks very cool.
But I expect I’ll probably also see The Amazing Spiderman 2, Godzilla, Edge of Tomorrow, How to Train Your Dragon 2 (the first was great), and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (haven’t seen the first, though).
*Jupiter Ascending *just looks stupid, although if the reviews are glowing, I might go.
Me, too. Godzilla is boring. But that’s my personal take on it. It’s a monster that was good for maybe two movies, tops, back in the 1950s, then should have been retired for good.
I was going to say that it’s a shame we can only pick one, but then I read the list. Is that really the cream of the crop for this summer? Yikes. I sure hope not.
Of course, there are lots of other, non-“genre” movies coming out, but I thought it wasn’t fair to compare different kinds of movies. These are just the usual summer blockbuster (or not) type of SF and fantasy movies.
I could start a poll of every single title to be released between, I dunno, May 2nd and Labor Day, but gosh that’s a lot of typing…
X-Men: Days of Future Past is based on the X-Men storyline that started me reading Marvel Comics again after a long hiatus, so I’m interested in seeing how well it’s adapted to the screen.
I’ll probably see Guardians of the Galaxy, though I know very little about the comic it’s based on. I wasn’t thrilled with the first Amazing Spider-Man, so the sequel isn’t calling to me.
Never heard of Earth to Echo, Jupiter Rising, Into the Storm, or Edge of Tomorrow until just now, so I’ll have to do some research.
Frankly, what appeals to me about Jupiter Rising is that it’s not based on a comic book or existing film series. It appears to be that rare thing; an original concept.
In theaters, X-Men DoFP and Guardians of the Galaxy, the latter mostly just so I won’t be lost when the next MCU movie comes out. The missus may talk me into seeing Godzilla; she seems taken with the ads so far.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (May 2nd) - the 1st movie was complete and total shit. You couldn’t pay me to see this.
Godzilla (May 16th) - very low expectations (big budget be damned, it’s still Godzilla), but I’ll probably go see it anyways. It’s Godzilla!
X-Men: Days of Future Past (May 23rd) - the X-Men series peaked with X2 and has been declining ever since (no, I didn’t care for First Class). I’ll probably get talked into seeing it anyway.
Maleficent (May 30th) - I know nothing about this.
Edge of Tomorrow (June 6th) - I know nothing about this.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 (June 13th) - I’ll watch it when it comes on cable.
Transformers: Age of Extinction (June 27th) - the other movies were complete and total shit. You couldn’t pay me to see this.
Earth to Echo (July 4th) - I know nothing about this.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (July 18th) - wait for cable.
Jupiter Ascending (July 25th) - I know nothing about this.
Hercules (July 25th) - wait for cable.
Guardians of the Galaxy (August 1st) - maybe.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (August 8th) - wait for cable.
Into the Storm (August 8th) - I know nothing about this.
The Giver (August 15th) - I know nothing about this.
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (August 22nd) - I liked the ideas in the first one, but frankly it was kinda boring. I’ll probably wait for cable.
Guardians of the Galaxy is the only one I’m sure I’ll see. Godzilla and Maleficent I’ll probably see, as the person I most often see movies with is excited about both of them. The Giver I might see, but I’ll wait to see how the reviews go: It’s a great book, but I’m skeptical over how well it’ll translate to the screen.
