Being pitted is a rite of passage here, especially for those who post on Great Debates or in the Pit itself.
I got to thinking as I scrolled through the latest characters being put in the stocks, are there any long-term dopers (with a reasonable posting rate) who have never been pelted with rotten eggs and tomatoes?
For those in this unfortunate posituion, how do you cope with the rejection?
Have all the current moderators and administrators been pitted, either before they were thus anointed or after? Is it a prerequisite for elevation to moderator status in the first place?
I’ve never been pitted, either – with a higher post count, but shorter tenure, than El_Kabong. Of course, I mostly hang out here and in Cafe Society, so how much trouble am I going to get into?
I’ve been around (under my old name) since 2001, and I’ve never been Pitted to my knowledge. I’ve participated in the Pit only a few times, as a matter of fact. Going on 4 years – not bad.
I was pitted once, but it was all a misunderstanding that resulted in laugh all around.
Seriously, that’s what happened. I made a joke quoting the Princess Bride joke about Australia being populated entirely by criminals, and an Australian that never saw the movie was offended. Alas, the thread was lost in our Winter of Missed Content.
Hmmm. I’m certainly not as prolific as other posters, but I have been here a while. I’m sure some of the things I’ve posted deserved a pitting, but there’s always been more interesting stuff happening at the time. Not that finding something more interesting than my posts would be all that difficult. I’m just saying.
