I assume you’re talking about the auto accident in 1963 when she was 17 that resulted in the death of the driver of the other car. According to the police report neither driver had been drinking, but no tests were performed.
My only other theory is that there was maybe one real incident that made the papers, and then everyone started blaming their farts on the Mad Gasser.

The Oakland County Child Killer case because it directly affected me growing up.
For historical reasons, proof that Lee Harvey Oswald was the sole assassin of JFK (which is almost certain), his precise reasons, and exactly how he was able to able to fire the fatal shots. I’d also like to reconcile evidence that seems to contradict that. Finally, proof that the real reasons for Ruby killing Oswald are what he stated, and the reason Dallas police didn’t protect Oswald better (probably they simply didn’t conceive anyone would do what Ruby did).
For my own curiosity, proof of the identity of Jack the Ripper (or if different people did the different murders, their identities) and the reasons the Ripper cut up the victims in the bizarre way he did. Were the letters written by him or hoaxers? What was the writing on the wall that was erased by order of Police Superintendent Arnold and Police Commissioner Warren? Did the Ripper write it, or was it unrelated to the case?
Even if a film turned up that showed Oswald killing JFK, the conspiracy crowd still would refuse to believe it.

Could you share your mother’s story of what happened?
She was at a park in Seattle during the time that he was active, and she fit the description of his victims exactly (oddly enough, a few years ago a Criminology professor of mine was talking about Ted Bundy for some reason and mentioned that I fit the profile of his victims), and a man tried to talk to her then push her into his car. She screamed and screamed and there was a group of people some distance away, having a bonfire IIRC, so he must have been scared they would hear, and he gave up and drove off. It turned out the people didn’t hear anything though.
I don’t remember all the details exactly, it’s been a lot of years since she’s said anything to me about it. I think she still doesn’t like to talk about it.
