I was a contestant on the old nighttime version of WWTBAM - I taped my show on 12/13/00 and it aired on 1/7/01. I won $1000, but got bounced on the $8000 question, “What does a snood cover?” (Hint- not the eye!)

UK version - twice.
In October 2000 I failed to reach the chair but fared somewhat better in April of the following year. I got to £64,000 with all lifelines intact but, despite employing the phone-a-friend option, got the question wrong and fell back to £32,000.
I refuse to discuss my answer. Everybody I spoke to afterwards knew the correct one (people would phone and tell me) and I should have known it as well. That said, £32K was a very nice prize to go home with.
I wasn’t a contestant, but the German version of WWTBAM has 4 possible lifelines – you can give up the security of the 32,000 level in exchange for a lifeline in which members of the audience who know or think they know the answer stand, and the contestant picks one (I don’t know if other versions of the show do the same).
Anyway, I was in the audience for the first time, and the contestant turned to this option, and only I and one other person stood. He chose me, and I had it right. I have it immortalized on Youtube, and I would ask for kindness from German speakers for my language errors; I have a total fangirl crush on the host, Günther Jauch, and I was stirred up.
Easiest €500 I’ve ever earned!
