Which Science Fiction character would you most like to be, who are you actually like?

I’ve been watching some of my BBC sci-fi eps (the entire NuWho series so far, Red Dwarf) and Lexx amongst others (no, Lexx isn’t BBC) and I got to thinking, what character, in the entire panoply of Science Fiction, would I most like to be? (all Sci-Fi qualifies; novels, radio, television, movies, webcomics, etc…)

If I could choose any one character to be, it’d be a two-way tie between Zaphod Beeblebrox from HHGTTG, and John Crichton from Farscape

Zaphod’s just this guy, you know, but he’s really a hoopy frood who knows where his towel is

John Crichton is just a regular, everyday IASA (NASA) astronaut, catapulted across the galaxy by a freak accidental appearance of a wormhole, encountering a diverse group of aliens, some trying to help, some trying to block his journey home, on the way back, he falls madly in love with a gorgeous raven-haired temptress (personally, I’d go for Chiana myself, ROWR!)

either one would be nice, oh sure, I could choose the stereotypical choice of some omnipotent entity like “Q” or The Doctor but that would be predictable, and somewhat boring, so I decided to limit myself slightly…

In all honesty, though, I’m more like a mix of David Lister from Red Dwarf, Stanley Tweedle from Lexx, and Doctor Horrible, mediocrity, thy name is MacTech…

So, you?

I routinely say “Interesting”.

Then, immediately after it, I always wish I had said “intriguing”. Just like Data says it. (Indeed, I say interesting for the exact same, seemingly random, reasons Data did. Then again, as I understand it, we are both INTP. So that could explain it.

Who would I like to be like?

any Jedi. --But only if I could use the force. I’m well over halfway there with the no emotion thing. Which is good and bad, in the real world.

Then again, should “The Force” be capitalized?

I’ll go with Data. I could finally play a decent game of chess. And my sense of humor would be better.

Intriguing. Others could have their opinion influenced based on my actions.

I’d most like to be like Malcolm Reynolds, but I’m actually a heck of a lot more like Wash, with the wisecracks and the hot wife.

You remember the Scientist in all those movies who says “Don’t kill it, just think of what we can learn from it” and is the first to have his brain eaten/ fried by the ray/ face melted?

That’s me.

I’d want to be James Tiberius Kirk: cool ship, good friends, great adventures, hot alien babes, etc.

I’m most like Spock, though: committed to duty, somewhat stern, not amused by the irrationality of my coworkers. Fortunately, I’m more emotional than him and not nearly as conflicted with my inner self (or my dad).

And I’m Jayne… but more pudgy.

I’d want to be Riddick though, he’s one mean badass!

I want to be Han Solo from Star Wars, but I’m more like Barf from Spaceballs.

I would have to let one liners fly. (I havent seen THAT much Trek, but, humor, intentional, or otherwise, is just about the only thing that seperates Data and Spock, right? - Oh ok, that, and the entire “living” thing, I guess.)

You are your own best friend?

I would like to be David Bowman so I could turn into the Star Child. That would be pretty damn cool.

I’m not really sure who I most resemble…

I most resemble the faceless masses that watch the monster/alien/whatever from the streets, agape in horror.

Either Nathan Brazil from Chalker’s Well of Souls series (only the first and last of which are worth reading) or Great Souled Sam from Zelazny’s Lord Of Light.

Who am I, I suppose as RikWriter said, one of the faceless masses.

Of course I want to be Ripley (from Aliens only - we can skip the other flicks), but I’m afrid I’m more likely to be one of the mostly dead egg hosts on the reactor wall.

I would most like to be Jadzia Dax. I am more like Ezri Dax.

Col ? Jack Oneil (McGyver in spaaaaaace) of Stargate is who I’d like to be like.

Bender from Futurama is probably more close to reality…

I would like to be Hari Seldon (from the FOUNDATION series). I think it would be cool to show up (hundreds of years after I died) to advise future generation on how to handle their lives.

I’d like to be Mannie, aka Manuel Garcia O’Kelly Davis. From The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. Except I’d like to stay a female, thanks. Preferably with both arms intact. He has a lot of qualities I admire, such as being a creative problem solver and being down-to-earth. (Or down-to-moon, I guess.) I like the whole line marriage dealie, and living in the Davis compound sounds awfully nice.

As for who I’m most like? Probably Star, from Glory Road. You know, a gorgeous blond amazonian warrior princess. :stuck_out_tongue:

Really, I think I’m most like Dr. Goldman from The Six Million Dollar Man. I prefer to have a more behind-the-scenes role than to be out in the spotlight.

Come to think of it, Mannie would have preferred the same thing.

I have always wanted to be Dave Lister. But I’d bathe more often.

What the smeg is that smell?
