4 of 5 and Entenmanns - back in the day I had a friend who lived around the block from the Entenmanns factory, holy shit, I would either eat constantly or come to detest the smell of baked sweet goods if I lived there!
Where is Mrs Freshleys from? I am mainly east coast down through Virginia but have travelled around some. I would be willing to give them a try except I think now every single commercial sweets bakery uses palm oil as their shortening and unless I am going in for a colonoscopy and forgot my golytely [lie!] I avoid stuff that gives me the shits. [it is the only time I eat peanut butter cups, Reeses changed to putting palm oil in the peanut butter. I guess it is cheaper than leaving the peanut oil in the peanut butter …]
As a connoisseur(?) of hotel vending machine treats during my cross-country road trips, I’m pretty sure I’ve sampled all of the listed brands. I think my favorites are Little Debbie Cosmic Brownies.
Back in the day when there were MacFrugal’s discount stores, and even after they’d sold out to Big!Lots, you could get these “Olde New England Brownies” that were the definition of “Slap yo mama.” You’d finish eating one and think it was the best thing ever and then you’d realize: it wasn’t even frosted.
The very best are Nemo’s. Chocolate cakes are divine; carrot cake is pretty damn good. Every 7-11 in Los Angeles had them. I have not seen one in Texas. Amazon will sell them to me but they call them Ne Mos. Why? Also they want to sell me 6 cases of 6 packs each. I don’t want to go into business (or into the Extra Large Clothes department either).
The fact that Drake’s isn’t winning this poll says the country is full of heretics.
But to be fair, Drake’s was really a northeast thing, and if you were raised on them, all the others seem like weak imitations.
According to Nemo’s site (BTW how do I get this hyperlink to open in a new window/tab?) they do mostly cakes, with some cinnamon rolls an d muffins also mentioned. I wish I had not gone and looked at those pictures. That chocolate cake is crack to me.
And how do I get this hyperlink to open in a new window/tab?
