You are allowed to select a single superpower that you will possess until the day you die. Because it is your power, you determine its limitations, if any. You need not share this ability with the rest of the world. Everything else about your life that is not affected by your power remains as it is.
So, select one superpower. Or create your own. Or politely decline.
But I chose Teleportation. At minimum, planetary range. Ideally, much farther. Considering that you would have to match speed, rotation, inertia and orientation with your destination, this is a pretty potent power.
No more stuck in traffic, no more boring travel, traffic tickets or airport hassles.
Ultimate courier, ultimate smuggler, very useful for spying (you want me to go where and drop off what equipment?)
Don’t feel like being arrested? (and I’ve never been arrested in my life) No jail can hold you, assuming you bothered to let them take you in.
If I can take one or more other people with me, then it becomes even more useful. Need someone up to the space station right now? Or home from there? Or rescued from a mountain top, or gotten to a hospital RIGHT NOW? I’m your man.
Conversely, seriously piss me off? Come with me. See that North Korean labor camp over there? Enjoy telling them how you got here. Bye bye!
I’m assuming that “live forever” means that not only would I stop aging but that I’d become immune to disease and all forms of physical harm. With that in mind, that’s what I picked.
If it was simply that I stop aging but that I can still be killed by, say, a gunshot or a drunk driver, I might be convinced to pick teleportation or the ability to freeze time. If mind control/reading were on the list I’d choose it over teleportation or time-freezing but not over the immortality I described above.
Woooo, toughie. I wanted to pick “heal the sick,” but then figured once word got out I’d be swamped, and of course could never say no. That would be nice though.
But I would love to become a doctor! Unfortunately I have no science background, nor any latent ability. So being able to absorb book contents in a flash would make this slog a lot easier. Then I could help people, and maybe even save a few!
Just pick the ability that lets you absorb the contents of books. Go to the language section of your local bookstore and walk down the isle trailing your fingers across the spines as you go.
BTW: live forever is tempting, but after a trillion centuries or so I’d probably wish I died young fucking everything I saw. Sticking with Irresistible to anyone I desire.
I chose teleportation. The ability to travel like that would be fantastic. Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure I would use my powers for evil. Super Speed, a la Flash, comes a close second.
Was thinking of heal the sick, wandering hospital corridors healing terminal diseases with a wave of the healing hand. But time travel may be more useful…depending on the limitations.
Can I bring stuff back and forth? Travel to 3000 A.D. and see if they’ve discovered a cure for cancer, travel back and post the exact details to every cancer charity. Although if this doesn’t include immunity to disease I’ll go with the former, as I don’t want to bring back some harmless 31st century bug and release an epidemic, like the Spaniards in America. Plus, I’d want to go back - so dying of any number of past bugs would be a big downside.
Silver age flash could do just about anything: fly, move through solid objects, travel through time, deliver super strength punches, increase his body mass, become invisible, dodge all attacks, evacuate an entire town, etc. etc. etc.
