Which superpower would you choose?

I like the Purple Man’s power, the ability to make anyone instantly obey.

I wanted to pick flying. I really did. But when I really think about it, it would be easy to get hurt that way. Birds, powerlines, aircraft, insects. Plus it would get very cold and windy once you were a few hundred feet in the air.

Compared to living forever? Let me think, one-third of 80 years of additional time versus, hm, carry the three… no, can’t see it.

Teleportation - I didn’t even need a second to think about it.

Immortality sounded cool, but I also thought about the fact that being immortal would mean that I would just keep seeing friends die. Plus, explaining that would take some effort at some point: Either I’d become a media freak show, or I would have to “disappear” every so often and pop up in a new place.

What I love about teleportation are the pedestrian applications of it. Sick of paying high rent? Live in a house in Omaha, and teleport to my job in DC! Never waiting to go anywhere, ever, again. Want a cheap vacation? Teleport to Rome for a day, then sleep in my own bed. Wake up, then teleport to Venice for a day. But, yes, this power would have to include the ability to teleport anyone touching me - solo vacations kind of suck.

What I wouldn’t use it for, though, would be for doing things like going to the top of Mt. Everest - things where the journey is the entire freaking point.

I would also include one twist - some sort of precognition of the place I’m teleporting to. That way, I could more easily keep my power secret by going to a place where no one could see me, or just avoid teleporting into a nasty situation.

My skeptical mind envisions only being able to teleport somehwere out of sight one time, because you’d wind up inside a wall or tree or something.

However, assuming it works like you’d want it to, travel would still be nice. You would only need to buy one plane ticket. Then when your spouse arrived they could call and say “I’m here” and blink, you’d be with them.

I thought that it was global/political question but voted anyway.

I chose to freeze other peoples lives other then my own.

Being honest, while I would use my power for good, I would also use it to make me incredibly wealthy.

Time travel. As others have noted, it is like having all the other powers wrapped up in one. You could make yourself irresistible by simply trying out different technique sequences.

Become invisible - manipulation of time is sufficiently powerful to achieve this effect. or simply go to the future and grab some tech that allows you do so. We aren’t that far off now.

**Become irresistible to anyone I desire ** trial and error.

**Communicate with alien life forms ** matter of time and technology.

**Communicate with animals ** Matter of time and technology

**Fly ** See above

**Heal sickness with my touch ** nano tech

**Live forever ** matter of time manipulation

****Predict the future ** self explanatory

**Teleport myself ** same effect

**Temporarily “freeze” all life (except my own) ** self explanatory, (create a tiny loop)

**Touch a book and absorb its contents forever ** matter of technology

I picked healing the sick, although I would have to be quite strict about office hours. It would be pretty easy to get rich off that (“What’s that, you say, Mr. Jobs? Cancer? Hmm, tough one - how badly do you want to be cured?”) And if I can cure my own diseases, I can certainly live a good long while quite enjoyably.

Reading minds is my second choice.

Shodan

Definitely time manipulation, not necessarily just travel. It’s like immortality except I can potentially live out an infinite number of lives in every era of human history.

This is assuming I won’t age (relative to my point of view?) while I’m zooming around through time, though that’s kind of cheating. So I’ll put in the clause that I can localize my time powers on my body when it gets old and rewind it back to a younger body. This will heal me too if my arm gets severed or whatever. Instant cure for STDs too

“Touch a book and absorb its contents forever”? Heck, just “read a book and still actually remember some of it on the day of the test” would be nice.

I picked teleportation.

Others I find attractive are flying and absorbing books by touch, but I like the idea of being able to go anywhere - travel is great. Hell, you didn’t put a range limit, and I assume there isn’t a “no clothes” clause, so I’d be jaunting to the Moon, Mars and even other star systems (after I make enough money as the world’s fastest courier service to afford a space suit). Think of the science you could do! Just bringing back Martian rocks would be worth a lot to science, never mind visiting/photographing some exoplanets!

Flying - depends how fast, but takes time and has practical limits compared to teleportation.
Absorbing books - that’s great for now, but does it work on Kindles:dubious:

I wouldn’t *mind *living forever, but I wouldn’t call it a superpower, exactly, so I didn’t pick that.

Some of the others (invisibility, attractiveness, freezing people) are directly morally dodgy or only useful in situations I’d call that .
Animals are stupid, sick people are needy (how much of a life would you have after they found out you could cure AIDS, cancer and other stuff?), time travel/future prediction are also morally dodgy for me.

*Only *the book-touching superpower comes with a “learn it forever” sub-power, though - what makes you think you’d have better-than-human recall just because you are immortal?
