What is getting more media coverage in your area, the California recall or the Patriot Act? This is a poll, please include your location.
In California, immediately after a governor (Davis) got elected, a recall campaign started and got the required signatures to proceed; many candidates signed up including Schwarzenegger, Bustamante, A.Huffington, Camejo, and McClintock.
2a) In Washington, the Administration is pushing for add-ons to the Patriot Act on the basis that homeland security’s hands are tied.
2b) Also in Washington, bills are being introduced to roll back some of the radical provisions of the first Patriot Act. The P.A. took away various protections the citizens have/had against abuse by government personnel, as well as making it easier for the gov’t to surveil and nail possible terrorists.
My local paper is giving a little more prominence to the recall than the Patriot Act. Backbiting and movie stars always attract attention. A.G. Ashcroft is quite a spectacle in his own right, though. He believes that these difficult times need a hardnosed, hobnailed tromper; he’s proud to be that tromper. The Second Amendment will survive. The other nine? Time will tell.
All local papers out here in the inland empire are giving the most attention to the recall, and I’ve barely seen anything about the Patriot Act. Then again, I don’t read the paper every day. Most of the online news sources that I visit are giving a slight edge to the recall.
Living in the Mts. of California, all the local press is on the recall. Very little about P.A. mostly because this is a very conservative place. A lot folks up here aren’t even aware of the P.A. or that it might be controversial.
