Personally, I’d rather have a PS3, simply because I really don’t want or need a tablet. Anything I feel like I’m likely to do with a tablet computer, my smart phone, Kindle (non-Fire) or laptop is perfectly capable of handling.
Damn, I should have specified it more, then. I’m talking if you didn’t have your kindle or tablet or smart phone (because I don’t have any of those). Would it still be the PS3?
So yeah, if people could reply with what they’d want more if they didn’t already have any kindles, touchscreen devices, etc.
I got a PS3 last year. I have little to no interest in a Kindle anything.
Basically, would you rather have a video game system slash bluray player slash media center or a book reader slash whatever else a Kindle Fire does (not trying to belittle it, I just literally have no idea what extra functions it may have)?
True, but I’d be happy with both..so I figure I’d get feedback on what others would choose if they had neither. It might help rather then flipping a coin, heh.
Considering I already have a PS3, I voted for the Kindle.
Then I thought about it again. If I didn’t have either one, and could only get one, it would totally be the PS3. So that’s what I should have voted for.
I chose the Kindle Fire because it would be marginally more useful to me than the PS3 I already own and because it’s portable. I don’t use the PS3 for anything but single-player gaming (and rarely for that), and I’d rather do that on my PC anyway.
The Kindle Fire’s reviews have been lukewarm. The PS3 is pretty well regarded for what it can do.
I already have a PS3, but if I didn’t have one I would rather have it than the Kindle Fire. In fact, from what I have been reading I’d rather have a standard Kindle, than the Fire. The new Kindles are getting awesome reviews.
That makes it a bit trickier. Do you have other video game systems? If not, I’d definitley go with the Play Station 3. If you do, I think the Kindle Fire is a bit stronger contender (especially with all the overlap between the PS3 and X Box 360 game libraries) though I think the PS3 would win out for me either way.
I suppose a lot of it boils down to your lifestyle. If you’re on the road a lot, the Kindle Fire gets higher marks for portability. If you tend to find yourself around the house a lot, the PS3 starts looking better.
I prefer MMORPGs and only occasionally single player games on a PC, so I have no use for a PS3. I do extensively read ebooks, so the kindle would be more useful for me. Though to be honest, I read on my droid just fine, so I would rather have a gift certificate to Baen Webscriptions so I could pick up 5 or 6 months worth of new books.
Or maybe Amazon, though their ebooks are very expensive compared to Baen, but there are 3 or 4 books out that I would like that are not by Baen.
I have no idea what a Kindle Fire even is. But looking it up as something that let’s you read things I’d go with the PS3. 1) I prefer paper books, always will. 2) I distrust amazon ebooks ever since that time they deleted 1984 from a bunch of people’s libraries.
However it also depends on what you want to use it for. I already have a dvd player and am strongly a PC gamer so I prob would never buy a PS3 for myself anyway.
That being said however, if they’re both something you want and are likely to use equally, I get the feeling buying new books will be cheaper than buying more games.
As far as I know they did that once! Besides, I don’t download my books directly to the Kindle, anyway - I have copies of everything on my PC. And reading on the Kindle, while not exactly like reading a book, is pretty damn close - plus I already have 80+ books on my Kindle! It’s not as bad as people make it out to be.
