I need to become rapidly acquainted with the key plot details of this story, can anyone help me out?
BTW, the musical is set in the bayous of Louisiana, but it’s based on a 1961 British movie that was set in the north of England. The Americanization includes things like James Dean references and snake handlers. Both revolve around a little motherless girl who thinks Jesus is living in her barn.
The musical is a collaboration between Lloyd-Webber (i.e. the Aaron Spelling of Broadway) and Jim Steinman , who co-wrote and produced most of Meatloaf’s good stuff, so the whole thing has a very “Bat Out of Hell” “Streets of Fire” feel. There are some decent numbers (“Tire Tracks and Broken Hearts”, “Wrestle With the Devil”), but mostly it’s totally forgettable schlock (imo- and the opinion of the meager audiences who saw it).
