The current Time magazine has an article on page 63 about a new musical based on The Lord Of The Rings(a three-and-a-half hour “epic”), and it looks about as good as it soundsshudder. What adaptation from movie or book do you think would make an equally awful musical?
BTW, as I’m typing this, my son came up with “Tron-The Musical!”
Elephant: the Musical!. (Based on The Elephant Man, of course.)
(Extra points if you get the reference.)
“Moby Dick: The Musical!”
I just laughed out loud at the thought. Kirstie Alley’s lost enough weight that she couldn’t manage to get cast as the great white whale. Unfortunately, I haven’t!
I can just hear it. Call Me . . . Ishmael
Atlas Shrugged: The Musical!
The Origin of Species - the Musical
How about The Silence of the Lambs - The Musical?
(yes, it’s real)
Can any fictional example be worse than the actual Carrie: The Musical? Although personally I would do violence for an OCR.
Has anyone succeeded in staging A Shoggoth on the Roof?
For a fictional example, I have to go with Naked Lunch – the Musical!
Jeff Goldblum in The Tall Guy?
How about Charlie and Algernon, a musical based on a straight drama loosely based on the classic sci-fi short story Flowers for Algernon?
Battlefield Earth: the Musical!
I win.
Well, I wouldn’t have thought you could make a good one out of “Sunset Boulevard.” Shows what I know.
Theoretically, with the right talent, you could make a good show out of just about anything.
The Antiques Roadshow Musical Roadshow would pack 'em in, I’m sure.
Some more actual Broadway flops:
The Lieutenant, a musical about the My Lay massacre.
Rockabye Hamlet – you know what as a rock opera.
I know a guy with a bit part in that. He assures us the musical is absolutely dreadful. He won’t even ask his family to see it.
o/ Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins! Only three feet tall! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins! Bravest little hobbit of them all! o/
I would like to see someone try to make an opera out of A Clockwork Orange. Really.
Oh no you don’t: I give youThe Last Starfighter: The Musical.
Just adapt lots of Beethoven.
How about a ballet based on “My Left Foot”?
