Viewing toadspittle’s recent query about black triangle UFOs brought to mind something I heard years ago on the NPR Show “All Things Considered”.
An author was interviewed who had written a book suggesting that a good deal of UFO mythology, including the existence of white aliens and gray aliens, had been invented by the U.S. government.
He said that when UFO enthusiasts shot pictures of experimental aircraft, the government would tell them that they had actually photographed alien spacecraft, but that there was a war going on between two alien races and we were helping the good guy aliens, so it was necessary to keep what they had seen hushed up. I think the good aliens were supposed to be using the earth as a refueling station or somesuch. This approach had the advantage of making anyone who didn’t agree to stay quiet sound like an awful crank. He went on to say that the government sometimes told people that Jesus of Nazareth and other key religious figures had actually been good guy aliens.
Unfortunately, I only came in on the very end of the interview, and I never heard the name of the author or of the book or article he was discussing. I think the broadcast was back sometime in the 80’s; can anyone shed light on who this author was, and where I can see his work?
