White Elephant 2008 Update Thread

I think there should be a universal disclaimer about not judging the doper by the things you get from them in the White Elephant exchange.

think riders(yuppies) in the sky chorus:

white elephant to gooooooooo
white elephant to flyyyyyyyy
white elephant going to that clear alberta skyyyyyy!

post office disclaimer

white elephant should arrive in 6-10 business days, automatically insured to $91.68 against loss, damage and rifling!

rifling! wouldn’t the riflee have quite a time trying to rifle a white elephant.

I should think that would be a very confusing and contradictory picture.

Exactly!!! I’m not that complicated!

Late breaking news from the “it’s about damn time” department…

My elephant is on its way. Flying through the air like a square Dumbo as we speak (write, whatever). The only box I had that was close to the proper size was a priority mail one, so my lucky victim should have her box before the end of the week.

Just a little side note to my recipient when he or she receives the box:

It’s not my fault I swear. Most of that stuff was gifts. Really!

Were we supposed to put in a note, explaining the items? I didn’t. I like to think my recipient will be able to figure out what the stuff is.
But on that note, to my Elephantee: The green pencils? Hold them in your hot lil’ hand and they’ll turn yellow. Pretty fun.

No, it’s just something that was done for me in the first elephant I received – I liked the idea, and promptly stole it for my own usage in the next couple of elephants. I just didn’t do it this time…which is probably for the best, as many of the items I sent defy explaination.

My ele is winging its way east as of yesterday.

Just wanted to bump this thread as a visual reminder. You know, in case your white elephant forgets!

Not seeing the thread all last week is what caused me to forget and slack for the most part.

I have located a box.

I am off for the next 2 days.

Box should be good to go by next Monday. Yay!

My box is packed, but not sealed or anything. I’ve got an appointment for a massage on Saturday, so I’ll send it then.

Hey - YOU try going to the PO with a 2 year old, a baby in a car seat, and a full Pull-Ups box!

The elephant has landed! It was sitting happily on my front porch today, enjoying the sunshine and trumpeting quietly to the chipmunk that lives in the bushes.

I can’t decide what I like best, but I’m pretty sure that the Mr. Potato Head potato scrubber has edged out the Griffindor and Slytherin cups by a hair as being my favorite. I also received;

A leopard-spotted candle

a candle that looks exactly like a large dinner roll/small loaf of bread, complete with seeds and a dusting of flour. It’s very cool.

A set of six tea-light candles. My husband liked these, because they’ll work well in the Halloween pumpkins.

A half dozen birthday candles that re-light. Magic!

A Lord of the Rings goblet. It lights up, red. Be jealous. Be very jealous.

A small Lego toy. My son is covertly playing with it.

Some sort of “popper”, exploding confetti thing. My son will have fun with that at the bus stop, or something diabolical like that.

Cat crinkly balls to bat around the house. I don’t have a cat. Hmmm… I wonder if the chipmunk would like them?

A yo-yo. It glows in the dark. It’s really cool. I can still yo-yo, surprisingly.

A holiday box with tea bags and these little cookies in foil packets. Mmmmm…

A Colorado pen and notepad set in a little stand that says “Colorado”. Perfect to keep by the computer.

A blue mug that you can put into the freezer to keep drinks cold. Perfect for the lemonade I always drink. My husband my steal that one from me, too.

A Santa tree topper.

Two pencils - one is Garfield and one is Christmas themed.

A white plastic egg. This may be my favorite again because it’s the most random.

Thanks, Shamrock! I enjoyed opening this elephant.

A box of full Pull-Ups? Eewwww, I feel sorry for your White Elephant!

Elephant ho! The pachyderm was sent today. The elephant weighed in at over 12 lbs. The box is full! I didn’t include any explanations with any of the items, but I think the recipient will know which item is the one to be displayed for the year. I am hoping that it becomes a permanent White Elephant item, and the recipient will send it to the next person year after year. (Hint, it’s white and fluffy.)

My elephant was sitting on my kitchen table when i got home from work Wednesday. I tortured my kids and didn’t open it for 4 hours. Everyone in my house found something they loved and stole from me. Youngest boy stole the senior moment magnets. Middle boy stole the simpsons magnets, and daughter took the jewelry box. Hubby decided he wanted the N.J. Devils hat. I let them take their prizes, but they were warned, Gumby, Pokey, Prickles and Goo are mine. I know there’s no way my elephantee(?) could have known this, but I was a shameless Gumby fan as a teen.

Now that I have a box (and packing material) to recycle, my elephant will be heading on its way. If hubby didn’t mail it for me today, I’ll send it tomorrow am.

Oh, I should add, Hals hope that the recipient has a good vacuum…yeah, ditto.

Last night I gathered most of the things for my box; I’m going to try to pack it up tonight and mail it out tomorrow–we’ll see. I was telling my boss about the WE this morning, and she started going through the stuff at her desk to send something along! So, now my box will have a mug courtesy of her!

Gathered items for my WE today. Still trying to find a few more things to add before I mail it out. I’m hoping to have it in the mail no later than Monday.

Should I really be this excited about getting someone else’s crap?

Yes.

[sub]PS I’m not your sender.[/sub]

My box is half-full, and other items have been tagged for inclusion. If things go well, it will hit the mails Monday or Tuesday.

Whaddya talking about? You take crap from me every day.
