Continuing the discussion from Shots fired at White House Correspondents Dinner (Breaking News Thread):
The rescheduled dinner is taking place tonight. I was watching the awards and it was hilarious seeing Trump squirm while people and organizations got awards for coverage of his atrocities. Kaitlin Collins got one for her coverage of his bad behavior with Zelensky in the Oval Office. The Wall Street Journal got one for their coverage of the Jeffrey Epstein files (mentioning that Trump had sued the WSJ over it). A photographer got one for his photo in the Oval Office when someone had a medical event and Trump just stood there like a complete uncaring psycho. And Trump had to shake their hands after each one. You know he hated that.
I’m not going to bother watching his speech. I’m sure I’ll see coverage of it elsewhere. But I imagine he will go full-on asshole to get back at all of them.
I took a bullet and watched the last prime time speech. I’m checking in on the comments occasionally. His jokes seem to be falling flat.
From CNN’s coverage of the event:
Calling for term limits in Congress, the president attempted a lighthearted joke about a “senator I knew” who got a text from his wife asking for him to “come up the stairs and make love to me, and he said, ‘I can’t do both.’”
“In other words, you can’t go up the stairs and make love,” Trump said. “Does anybody get that one?”
With a hushed reaction from the audience of journalists, Trump said, “I thought that was actually pretty good. That was actually the only thing I thought was good in this whole, frickin, stupid speech they wrote.”
Trump had spent the last several minutes before the joke attacking journalists and political foes, including Democratic leaders in Congress.
Classy as always, just like his chintzy gilding on everything. What a complete and utter buffoon.
