When I have seen it proposed elsewhere, it has included clauses that prohibited the government from translating its documents into other languages and posting them. That pretty well ignores the success the U.S. had in doing that exact thing between 1890 and 1920.

Well not telling them this directly. But enthusiastic celebration of other cultures sends this message. And over-accomodation of other languages helps it along. I am under the impression that there has been an increase in accomodation of other languages of late. Is this not the case?

I’m not sure how you’d measure it. There has certainly been an increase since the 1960s as immigration has increased. However, in the period from 1890 to 1920, there were numerous government documents printed in all the Eastern and Southern European languages of the immgrants of that era. (It began tapering off during the Wilson era as he was almost rabidly nativist, but in historical texts I have come across throughout that period, I continually come across language-accomodating documents.)
Sure, but that’s not equivelent. If I were in a relationship with someone, and he died and left his estate to me, his partner, it would still be subject to the onerous death tax, while the bequething of an estate from one married person to their spouse is not. So I get hosed just because I’m gay.
And if he has any family, they can contest the will from a position of strength, because they are “family” and I am “not.” That would generally not be the case if we were able to be legally married, and thus considered of the same family.
I’ve read every book Buchanan’s ever printed, AFAIK. He’s as poor of a writer as he is a thinker.

A few thoughts:
First, IzzyR had a fabulous point about (certain) German-Americans from the 1930s. While it is true that the “dual-loyalty” phenomenon is troubling, the reality seems to be that WN’s are using it as a smokescreen for their antisemitism.
Second, I thought MEBuckner had a good point about freedom of speech. The reality is that to legally deport Zionists, you would need to substantially re-write the Constitution, including dumping the First Amendment. It’s a shame that this doesn’t (seem to) bother Sionnach. IMHO, developing the concept of Free Speech is one of the many great achievments of Western Culture.

Does this mean that standard government form were printed in multiple language (as today)? Or merely that the government occasionally put out publications geared towards an immigrant audience in their native language?
In any event, even if it is the former, I don’t know if you could prove anything from the historical example. As you note, it stopped after 1920, which is also the time that immigration was cut off. The fact that those immigrant communities assimilated so well was surely helped by these factors.

I should point out that your link focuses on the effect of various language educational schemes on individual students, not the effect on the larger population. But the link makes clear that there was frequently great opposition to preservation of other languages throughout US history. So we can’t really point to a precedent for the long term effect of accomodating multiple languages on assimilation.

While Europe was mired in the middle ages, slogging along in poverty and ignorance, the Islamic world was thriving. Many of the ideas that the Renaissance relied on came from the Arab world.

If a land is conquered by force, the conquerors have the rights to the land, in my opinion. However, what’s the point of taking over land from another people just to give it away later on? So what you are saying is that if in 30 years, the Chinese build up a powerful enough military that they can come in and conquer the United States, kill off a goodly portion of the population, and force the survivors to live in reservations, that it would be perfectly OK? In essence, this is a might makes right theory.
Why are we running out of it? I wasn’t aware that there was a shortage of “living space”. This country has less population density than much of Europe.
The fact is that not all immigration is of the illegal kind that comes in to take all of our menial jobs. Some of the immigrants that have arrived are people with college degrees who have come to fill technical jobs where there weren’t enought Americans to fill them. And a goodly portion of those immigrants were from India or East Asia.
You’e yet to answer qestions of why and how white culture is under attack.
Given that you’re not going to get it, what’s your back-up plan?
