Her wiki page says she died in Ottawa, Canada. But no cause of death yet.
I was just over at wikipedia for the second time since hearing the news, and it gives the location of death as Ottowa.
I’d like to predict that the ensuing media storm will rival Princess Diana’s passing …
ABC just pre-empted the Charlie Brown special to give us the news. For a second there, I thought something very news worthy had happened, like an Iranian nuke attack.
I remember her voice as the soundtrack of the 80’s, and she was very talented, and its sad she had to pass so young, so I hate to come off as crass …
But damn, pre-empting, as the ABC newsman said, the ABC World News (some markets don’t get Charlie Brown right now) to give us news of Whitney Houston … that tells me they’re gonna ride this to the ground. Endless tributes. A life story on a dozen cable channels. Commemorative plates.
Her eulogy in 10 words:
“Such a tragedy such a talent was such a trainwreck.”
All the rest is commentary, but they’ll stretch it into 500 hours per network, easy.
They are playing ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ on the radio here right now. Very sad, she really had an incredible voice.
I hope she is now able to find the peace she couldn’t find in her all too short lifetime.
Anyway, cynicism aside, I’ll always remember her the first time I saw her, as the ethereally beautiful girl singing I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
She was so fresh and innocent, such a voice, and at the time one of the most stunning women on the planet.
I’ll also fondly remember Serge Gainsbourg leching over her on that chat show. He was old and gross, but the dude had balls, he had a go.

Remember the music video for “How will I know?”, so bright, and bouncy in that 80’s music video sort of way? With a cameo by Aretha Franklin? Who’da thunkit that Whitney Houston would pass first?
That looks like a spoof site. The URL is “go.com”. ETA: well maybe it isn’t, but the date on the article is September 13.

ETA, I’m thinking the denial report(s) are from earlier today and maybe a “Whitney Houston Died” rumor had started last night or this morning.
Wow, as much of a train wreck as she was, it’s still shocking. I, too, remember the first time I ever saw her, on The Tonight Show, and I knew right then that she was going to be huge. Fuck Bobby Brown.

Never cared for her at all. Her brand of overwrought ballads sung with high pitched ear-piercing shrieks is not my idea of good music. I mean, does she have talent? Yeah, I guess she has vocal talent. But Kenny G has that kind of talent too.

Yup, I remember that video well. Honestly, she was like a breath of fresh air. Who would have ever thought then what her life would become?
