That’s right , International Job Search Sites. Who are they, where are they being used.
Well my dear SMDB colleagues, here is a fine chance to assist with yours truly’s “homework:” A certain project I am working on involves examing what is actually being used out there.
I’ve done some research but am curious to see what responses I get here. (Americans, I know the market don’t bother telling me about North America.)
I’m currently working for TotalJobs.com who’re a fairly major player in the UK jobs market. Take a look at this page for some other information about our links and integrations.
TJ is also the back-end behind a lot of job search services around the internet. CWJobs.co.uk and MSN UK jobs, for example, are both skinned versions of TotalJobs with some localised embellishments.
If there are any more specific questions I can answer for you, let me know, but bear in mind I’m just temping here and only started less than a month ago.
I’m aware of the Monster overseas presence and report that Monster’s overseas sites are in fact geared to locals. However, it’s hard to figure out who’s important in the market locally.
Well to clarify, I am trying to see what SDMB people can tell me about what they know about their areas actual usage. International job searching is not really my concern, my interest is in an international view of job sites, where used and how much.
The names generated are quite helpful, some I have not heard of before.
Aha, also I wonder if there are any Latin Americans around who can give their inputs.
Would Manpower.com help you? They are recruiters and temps, but they do have an online international job search database.
Here in the Czech Republic (admittedly too specific for you) there are a few job searches such as hotjobs.cz (which has links to other search engines too).
I am not actually searching for people, internationally or otherwise. I’m looking to find out in a sort of ad hoc way, what SDMB folks can tell me about what is used in their country and/or region.
Manpower.com: interesting, do they operate in Central Europe?
And on the Czech or regional basis, are these services used?
RBI publishes a large range of magazines and websites on all kinds of business areas, many of which have specialised jobsearch websites attached. TotalJobs is a general jobsite, covering all areas, but in less detail.
Oh, just saw your explanation…Here in the CZ the online job searches are used A LOT. I used them last year to hire a quant and was pleased with the number and quality of applicants.
You see ads for the online job engines in the metros and trams, as well as hear them on the radio and TV. There are tons of printed materials (newspapers and magazines), but the main one for jobs is Annonce (with their associated annonce.cz). You can find the jobs section located between the ads for escorts (with photos!) and dog cages.
The online engines are incestuously owned (3+ companies with 3+ websites each) and broken down into a bunch of different sections to help people find things easier: hot jobs for the latest, ‘our’ jobs for offer, students, programmers, finance, etc. etc.
IMO the Internet is the first place job seekers look here, then the printed materials, then headhunters agencies (which all have their own databases and also advertise on the other sites as well), then the unemployment office.
I’ll be posting a new ad for a quant for our fund tomorrow, if you’d like to know statistics on how many apply how quickly through the net, just email me.
While in contact with the sales rep of the online job engine I’m using, I asked her for information regarding what peopleuse, etc. She sent me a pdf with graphs and info in it. If you want it, I can email it to you. But it is in Czech, so you’ll have to search for the soldiers near you who are speaking funny and work in the bio-agents field (I think the main role for Czechs there is to search for WMD). That or ask my wife real nice.
To write the report they used information from a market analysis company called Taylor Nelson Sofres (Google it and use the re-direct link if you want to get the info from them, they might be able to answer all of your questions as they are in 50+ countries). The info was from September of last year.
Some quick info I could glean from it:
25% of Czechs have active internet connections, but 88% of Czechs over the age of 15 have used the internet at least once.
Of the active Interneters, 82% know of jobs.cz
Of the active Interneters, 70% have used the Internet for job searches, compared to 57% of them using the daily papers.
Of people looking for work, over 60% were looking for jobs that paid under 25,000Kc a month (my wife started at Philip Morris in the HR dept. in 1997 at 25,000Kc a month). This matches up with the next graph that says that those looking have a high school (49%) or Associates degree(11%). Bachelor’s degrees account for 35% interestingly enough.
