Must have gotten up too early today.

Fear not, aztec. Brianjedi, valiant resident of the Mayfield-Farmington area of Graves County to the rescue! Question: native resident, Murray State student, or both?
-Brianjedi
Mythos, good to know you! I lived in Frankfort for five years, and moved away in June of 2000. It’s a great town – close enough to Louisville and Lexington to take advantage of the cultural and entertainment stuff (and before anyone asks, YES there is “culture” in Kentucky – Louisville, especially. Actor’s Theater is absolutely amazing!), but still has a bit of that small town feel.
I notice your profile says student. Ya at WHHS, FCHS, FHS, or already at KSU? Or another institution I’ve forgotten?
Anyway – it’s good to know there’s someone in my old stompin’ grounds.
brianjedi, I’m a native resident and MSU student (what can I say, I love this town). You at MSU? planning to come here? Hurry up and get here before the tuition hike.
Former Kentuckian here, and my brother, tpayne, who posts here VERY occasionally, currently lives in Lexington.
And that’s where I’m from, too! Left there in 1979, when I was still in high school. Moved to NORTH Carolina, about 1/2 a mile from the SC border, so I know where you’re coming from.
Transplanted Hoosier living in Louisville. Hey, Rockwell, you should get together with thinksnow and myself some time. And we could always have another Kentucky DopeFest.
Cherry – Woo-hoo, you made my day! I have a powerful cranium!! Hee hee. Actually, I just write about Kentucky a lot, so I’m handy at honing in on atmosphere.
Shameless Plug Alert: I write for Kentucky Life, which airs on KET Saturdays at 8:30 pm ET, 7:30 pm CT, if anyone wants to soak up my scintillating work. dwyr should be awake by then.
lawoot – Hey I’m mad at you. You never came back to discuss The Fourth Hand with me. (Well, I admit I didn’t bump the thread up! I couldn’t find it. Isn’t that pathetic.)
D Marie – You make ME long for SC! We spent our vacation on the Isle of Palms (again) and I swear I could live there happily. If I didn’t have to do the pesky work thing, of course.
Mythos and PNR – I lived in Frankfort for a couple years and really enjoyed it. I’m sort of a small-town girl at heart, and for me it was a nice, big small town. I miss the small-town things, like being able to walk to the library; calling stores and picking something out over the phone and having them gift-wrap it for me; knowing everyone who works in the courthouse. Sigh. Now I’m getting homesick! I lived in Winchester for several years and really loved it, too.
Rue’s marshalling the Ohio crowd, so maybe some of us – those in the Lexington, Northern Kentucky (hi Sir!), Frankfort and Louisville areas, at the least – can join with the Cincinnati contingent for a meeting sometime!

Nice to meet you! Do you still have family there?

Oh, I could live at Isle of Palms, too. My grandparents have a place there, and I love the beach. But for right now I’m in Columbia, which has less to recommend it. This patch of pavement is so friggin’ hot in the summer that when we got a hockey team, they named it “The Inferno”! It’s not a bad place but I really miss 1) Kentucky fall and 2) snow.
Shhh… don’t say nuthin’ my Brown Eyed Girl, just… watch the Boards. That’s all I can say right now.

hehe ::snort:: hehehe ::guffaw:: BwahahahHAHAHA!
[sub]Everyday I am feeling more and more like a sidekick. I wonder if there’s a support group somewhere I can join?[/sub]
Hey, Shibb, I’ve been looking for a sidekick for sometime now. Want to join forces? Superdude and Death would be unbeatable!
Hey, PRNYouth, I’m always glad to meet another Frankfort boy (or girl) online, good to know ya.
And, I’m a junior at FCHS. Go Flyers, home of the 2-8 football season.
Hello, Ellen. Lifelong Frankfort resident here, and I love it. Afaid I can’t walk to the library, though (I’m waaay out in the sticks).
Oh, and PRNYouth, did you attend one of our fine (and not-so-fine) bastions of education? If so, which one?
No, I moved to Frankfort just after I graduated from college. My career involves working with teens and college students, though, so I was in all of the schools during my five years there. Most of the ones I knew were from Bondurant and Western Hills, but we had a few at FCHS.
I didn’t live close enough to walk to the library either, but isn’t the Paul Sawyier library neat? That huge building … I love it!
Have you seen that picture taken by a local photographer (and dentist, I believe) of the “three towers” – the library, the courthouse, and the steeple of the Catholic church across from the library? That’s a classic image of Frankfort, for me. That, and the capital – used to love to drive around the capital during Derby week.
Paul Sawyer’s always been my library of choice (Though the state library is nice), and there’s a lot of history in that grand ol’ lady of a building.
And though I’ve never been in it, the Catholic church is damned impressive from the outside, at least. Complements the library well.
Haven’t seen the photo you mentioned, I’ll try and find it.
My brother moved back to KY (something he swore he’d never do) about four years ago… he is actually enjoying it there, except for the job. Other than that, the closest thing to family for me is an ex-girlfriend who moved back to Danville a couple of years ago. I’m hoping to make a visit back east SOMETIME in the next year… just have to wait for the scheduling to clear up at work.

Didn’t look like anyone else was ready to discuss, what with folks waiting for books to be delivered and all… I’m still willing to discuss, though.
(I’ve found the best way to find my old threads is to find one old thread that I’m in, then click on the search button under my post. Works pretty well, and it shows threads from ALL of the forums, which is nice.)
Wow, I didn’t know that, Woot! (And I’m not really mad! Just kidding!) And can I call you Woot? Are you a Woot from LA?
I believe the Paul Sawyier Library was once a post office, wasn’t it? And that the downtown Catholic Church moved to a new location?
I worked on a piece about Paul Sawyier and it turns out he’s pretty interesting in terms of art history. You can read about it here: Kentucky Life. I don’t know when it will air again but it’s worth watching to learn about an artist that everyone in Kentucky seems to know, but no one really knows much about him. Anyway, there I go with the shameless plugs again.
Rue, man of mystery, eh?? And Shibb, I can definitely see you as a sidekick!

Hey Blue Moon of Kentucky, my boyfriend called me this afternoon to tell me that tonight is a blue moon, and he sang me the song in honor of my home state. Love your name! **
Thanks!
Glad to see a healthy group in my home state … wouldn’t want to miss out on Dopefests if I did end up back there.

Nope, not a Woot from LA, just one word - lawoot.
My brother calls me woot, but he’s the only one… (of course, I call him 'Bonga Toogie, but that’s another story…)
