Who are the people who enjoy holiday music in October?

Ditto. But I don’t like Christmas music at all beyond a CD of medieval Christmas music (lots of lutes). The pop renditions are especially annoying – all treacle and shrieky would-be divas.

I love Christmas music - it may be my favorite thing about the season - but I try really hard not to listen to it until after Thanksgiving. There such a thing as too much of a good thing. If I started now, I surely would be sick of it by Dec 25. Besides, Thanksgiving should be special enough not to be ignored - I want to look forward to that day first.

Love Christmas music, but not until Thanksgiving.

Best Buy was playing it yesterday :frowning: Too early guys.

Well, many songs which are put into the “Holiday” lineup aren’t really Christmas songs, and I dont mind them this early.

"Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow. (Dino!)

“A Few of my Favorite things” (which isnt technically a Holiday song at all)
“Winter Wonderland”

etc.

As soon as the weather gets consistently below 75 degrees is just fine for Christmas music.

The local cable channel that scrolls the program guide has been playing Christmas music for at least a week already. When I’m in control of the remote, I mute it.

I’ve also noticed that the Hallmark Channel has been showing a lot of Christmas programs/movies of late - not that I ever watch that channel, but when I’m checking out the scroll, I see them all listed. ugh.

My mom is in this boat. Drives me nuts. It may be one of the reasons for my intense dislike of the whole “Christmas pageantry” scene. I like exchanging gifts with the people I love, any excuse for that is cool (xmas, bdays, whatever). But I hate putting up the tree, putting ornaments on it, listening to Christmas songs… going grocery shopping in December sucks because every store (except Aldi) pipes this crap 24/7.

Very well written. I may borrow it. Thank you for sharing it with me, in the spirit of the season!!

Aldi, huh? Duly noted.

My husband’s cousin has her husband out putting up decorations this weekend. For weeks on Facebook she’s been posting how many days it is until Christmas. I’m going to guess she’s listening to carols.

Aldi is the best. No music, cheap food, close parking, and only 4 aisles.

Pfft.

Try working retail during the holiday season. Only then will you truly know pain.

I love holiday music year round; in the privacy of my own home, wearing ear phones listening to my collection.
I never listen to the radio so they are not doing it for me.

I don’t listen to the radio much anymore, but this time of year the stations around here would start playing execrable Mannheim Steamroller Xmas tunes out of some misplaced local pride. Tedious dreck.

Oh yeah. I worked at Blockbuster on Christmas day.

I like plenty of Christmas music. I’m just not as crazy about RADIO Christmas music, which often seems to be remakes of the same dozen or so songs over and over. I like both Eartha Kitt’s and Madonna’s versions of “Santa Baby”, much of Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, and Nat King Cole. I like James Taylor’s rendition of “Deck the Halls,” “Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth,” Bing’s version of “Do You Hear What I Hear?” and Martina McBride’s is rather nice, too. I LOVE TSO’s “Christmas Canon”, but that was always one of my favorite classical pieces as it is. I enjoy most of the novelty/comedy stuff that gets airplay (yes, even “I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas” and “Dominic the Donkey”, which I SWEAR are the same song). And I like the fact that “Linus and Lucy” gets airplay, as well as some other cuts from the CBC album, the John Denver and the Muppets album, and some songs from specials.

But too much of it is show-offy pop singers. (Which, of course, is the kind they play in stores and such.) These days, I’d rather pop in The Nutcracker, or this one CD I have of a chamber orchestra and chorus doing old English carols, or anything orchestral, choral, or brass.

They don’t give the more unusual stuff much airplay nowadays–the ones that DON’T get played into the ground. I first heard Peter, Paul, and Mary’s wonderful “A-Soalin” on the radio but I haven’t heard it there in years. I’d kill to see a version of “We Three Kings” or “The Holly and the Ivy” get more play. Or Pavarotti’s rendition of “Gesu Bambino.” Or the Monkees’ “Riu Riu Chiu” (which they could play as a substitute for that awful “Feliz Navidad”).

Two of my neighbors have their lights up and turned on. This is the first year they’ve done this.

I like Christmas music (and lights), but not before the day after Thanksgiving!

I saw this thread and the WKRP finally released on DVD with original rock music thread sequentially, and thought how they could replace all the music in the show with Christmas music. And CGI in a bunch of Christmas decorations all over the WKRP studio. And Mr. Carlson could be given a white beard and red suit. And Les Nessman could be dressed like an elf.
Yeah, that would be awesome.

Eartha Kitts version is fine. The other abomination should be should be boiled in a vat of figgy pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through it’s heart.:stuck_out_tongue: Small target tho.

Dr, Dr, What did she do to you?

I like Madonna’s, and nothing more need be said about the always interesting Eartha Kitt. She was like, unworldly.

I must admit I … I… do get Elvis’ Christmas Carols out a little early each year.
