Nothing. There are places I don’t shop, but I wouldn’t call that a boycott. I just don’t shop there. Boycotting implies some sort of political reason, and I never have understood how boycotting something will change anything.
Car Toys, a Seattle area auto stereo chain. Never been to one, probably couldn’t find one without a phone book. But they sued me last year for a check they say I wrote. The first and last name were the same but the middle initial, address, and phone number were not. I presented proof from the bank that the person that opened the account was a 21 year old male and his SSN was not even close to mine. I also presented evidence that the person had also written bad checks to 10 other businesses and 3 had successfully sued this individual. The other person’s parents even provided me with a picture of him and his has oriental facial features and dark hair. I am a typical late 40’s WASP with light colored hair. The judge of course dismissed the case and even suggested that the attorney for the plaintiff hire me to do his detective work. Last July I was served again, Car Toys is appealing the decision and is taking me to court again.
I can only think of one right now:
Circuit City
Until recently, Subway.
Hey, I take my meatball sandwiches seriously. One time I got a bad one and didn’t go back in for several years. And that’s as deep as my politics usually go.
Shell Oil (and British Petroleum “BP” as well)
Any place that wears religion on its sleeve. (If I need a plumber, I don’t care about the plumber’s Jesusfish.)
Same way with businesses promoting their political affiliation. Whether I agree with it or not. Leave it at home.
Domino’s Pizza (not just for the crazy owner, but for the nasty taste too. That’s any easy boycott)
Do you mind if I ask about a detail?
I boycotted Nestle forever, but cannot seem to find any recent info about it.
Are they still suspect? (I mean, in terms of the original boycott).
I’m assuming so; is it just old news and thus no updates?
Best Buy
Burger King
Wells Fargo
Sam’s Club
Auto Zone
hmmmm, I know there’s more :dubious:
Did I mention that BestBuySux ?
McDonalds.
A local restaurant with bad service.
Sony.
Domino’s
Tops grocery store-a clerk was mean to me for no reason
But I really like Nestle’s chips the best, this is making me very sad. I don’t want to boycott them again.
Fox TV
Ok I will modify my answer. I try not to go to CVS unless it is absolutely necessary. I go to a local non-chain pharmacy. No political reason, I just think CVS sucks.
Curves
I’d like to say Walmart, but I just don’t have the willpower.
Then they will always have the Wal-power.
Ben & Jerry’s
What’s the point of a boycott if you don’t give the reasons why you’re boycotting something? This is just listing company names for perceived grievances that might or might not be valid.
Ditto, because they unilaterally fired all of their gay employees about 15 years ago.
Walmart - I don’t like their business practices and there are alternatives.
Sprint - for once charging me $3 per minute for a long distance call because I hadn’t picked one of their plans when I moved. That is their standard rate and it’s ridiculous.
Dominos - I’m prochoice, the company isn’t.
Halliburton - for obvious reasons. They offered me a job in 1999 and I turned 'em down flat.
diamonds - stupid, overvalued stones with a less than stellar human rights history…
Circuit City - 'cause, goddammit, I don’t want a service agreement and what do you mean the advertised special isn’t in stock?
Pepsi
Frito-Lay
Walmart
I figured people’d give 'em anyway if they felt strong enough, and people would ask if they we curious enough (as has been happening) .
Hilton Hotels (til 2005)
Outback Steakhouse (til 2006)
Circuit City (til 2006)
Wal-mart (forever)
Southwest Airlines (forever)
Anyplace overtly christian (forever)
Anyplace with a Bush affiliation (hopefully not much longer…)
Out of curiosity, why the expiry dates?
