Leaving aside the high degree of speculation and weasel words in that, it doesn’t discount anything I said. Prestige isn’t a zero-sum game, and the US losing it doesn’t equate to Russia and/or China gaining it. The truth is that both Russia and China are losing prestige as well right now, and I’d say a case could be made they are losing it more rapidly than the US because of their own policies. China especially has shot itself in the foot repeatedly and in multiple ways in the last few years, and doesn’t seem to grasp that they are doing so, doubling down in many cases. Russia didn’t have all that much prestige to lose, but has managed to lose it anyway. The non-US NATO countries aren’t moving towards Russia and away from the US…if anything, they are circling the wagons and trying to figure out how to do more on their own and outside of the US shadow. And while there was some feelers by the TPP nations towards China I think that’s cooled rapidly since then…I don’t see that coalition of countries bringing China into the fold to replace the US. China’s own actions have demonstrated how bad an idea that would be.
