Who buys honkin' great big DVD boxsets?

The New York Times recently had an article (which is now archived unfortunately) about a woman who just got this, the complete library of Penguin Classics, 1082 books for $7,989.50. That’s 25 boxes that weighed over 750 pounds deliverd on a shrink wrapped skid. Her husband bought them for her as a gift after she lost most of her collected works in a fire. Evidently, Amazon has sold something like 50 copies of the whole set. Amazing…

I haven’t scene it for that price, but I believe you can get it at overstock.com for $140

Overstock.com has this set (Babylon 5 Seasons 1-5) for $360.28 right now, and each individual season is going for about $72 apiece. Still pricey, but a very good deal compared to what most places are charging. I love that show, so I encourage anyone who’s considered watching it to do so immediately.

…oh God. Please nobody tell my dad about that. My brother needs to go to college.

How’d you manage $102, Lou?

There is no way I will ever pay the prices for the Trek sets that Paramount is asking. Even at the heavy discount price Amazon gives, that’s still more than I am willing to pay.

I love that they bundle it with another movie. Hey, what’s one more?
