Who could the Democrats nominate as a Trump equivalent?

Vulgar, self inflated, Twitter abusing, over blown self promoter?

duh, that would be Kanye West

Oooh… good one!

I would only support that choice because I know Beyoncé would be the VP candidate.

Woody Harrelson.

…with a Shotgun.

…And a “Get Out Of Jail Free” card that never expires…

Al Franken would have the capacity to make it amusing but the discipline not to.

Thank you. Clear thread winner.

The other personalities mentioned don’t have the anything close to the toxic combination of ego, thin skin, narcissism, self-pity, entitlement, shameless self-promotion and WWE buffoonery that Trump has. Kanye’s got them all.

Louis CK has far too much self-insight.

I vote for Kanye. (Surprise running-mate: Dennis Rodman.)

Of the people mentioned, Sean Penn has that mix of crazy and self-entitled arrogance that most of the others lack. I mean, when Team America parodied actors, they spent 70% of the time picking on Alec Baldwin (sorry, Arec Bardwin), and Baldwin said he thought it was funny, as did George Clooney and Matt Damon, who also had some screen time. Penn was one of the more minor members of the Film Actors Guild and they didn’t spend much time on him, but he released a press release bitching about the film that he didn’t see, and also at the same time became a living example of the main beef that they had with him (“I went to Iraq, I know more than you!”). Best buds with dictators? Trump has Putin, Penn had Chavez. Non-political skeletons in his closet? Check.

I will remind you that Lyndon LaRouche is still a Democrat. The difference is that I’m not 100% sure than Trump is not acting. There is also the fact that the Republican establishment hates Trump, and he has only claimed to be a Republican since 2012.

I guess it’s not proper to say anyone is “wrong” in a thread like this but you come close. Franken has actually been elected twice and in neither campaign was he the goofball take no prisoners campaigner that Trump has been. Could he do a sketch as a lefty Trump, sure, but he’s proven he’s not actually a lefty Trump.

Howard Stern of course - none of the other people mentioned are even close.

Rahm?

Wrong party.

Eh, most of the people mentioned are just people with far left-wing beliefs and big egos. I don’t think they’re really equivalents of Trump, who certainly has a big ego, but doesn’t seem particularly committed to any particular political views beyond nativism.

Sean Penn, Oprah, Michael Moore and Baldwin may have big egos, but I think all three also have pretty well developed political beliefs, even if some of those beliefs are varying degrees of nuts. Indeed, its their enthusiasm for those beliefs that presumably suggested them to people in this thread. If they ran political campaigns, those campaigns would definitely be big ego-strokes, and probably come with some crazy policy ideas, but they’d also be pretty committed to their particular issues.

Trump, on the other hand, is pretty explicitly running on a platform of “Trump should be President”. As was already mentioned, if a magical fairy offered Trump the Democratic nomination in return for 180ing his policy views, I don’t doubt he’d do it.

So I think you need someone who both a) has a mini-cult of personaltiy like Trump does, b) is loosely associated with Dem politics but c) gives the impression that their politics are basically just a convenience.

You left out “need answer fast”.

Oprah (you mentioned), Howard Stern, Jon Stewart, and Steven Colbert would fit that description, but only Oprah has the financial clout to do it, but she’s seen as a true believer who couldn’t swing voters.

I had hoped it would be Teh Donald at one time. He’s a smart guy though, he knew the Republicans would be dumber and easier to bring on board.

Not only did Kanye announce his intentions last year to run for president in 2020, he claims to be serious about it:

Right after that announcement came out, one of the radio stations around here started referring to him (not even obviously jokingly) as “President Kanye West”. So you may get your chance to vote for him after all.

Sean Penn had occurred to me; I guess I don’t see him as quite as flamboyant, which is a YUUUUUUGE part of The Donalds’s schtick. Still, I think this is a good choice for this thread. Also, I don’t hate him as much as most do. Not denying that he’s a cunt; he’s just a cunt that I could live with (not literally).

Several good answers . . . but seriously, who’s got the hair?

Wait a minute. Aren’t they going to nominate Hillary?

I am quite surprised it took 39 posts to get to this.
