Who did it originally? I knew Joan Jett’s version was a cover, but I can’t remember or figure out who originally recorded it.

“I Love Rock 'n Roll” was several years old when Joan released it on Neil Bogart’s Boardwalk label. Originally recorded by an Anglo/American band the Arrow as a “B” side of one of their British singles, the song was written by band members Jake Hooker and Alan Merrill as a response to the Rolling Stones’ “It’s Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It.)”

Just a nitpick…I don’t know if you made a typo or the book really says this, but the group was “The Arrows,” not “The Arrow.” They recorded for the RAK label and had a couple of their singles released in the U.S.
