Who do the Democrats run in 2020?

There are no qualified Latinos. The Republicans actually have them all.

Seriously though, you can’t do affirmative action at the Presidential level, the voters will reject it. The Democrats have qualified African-Americans and a couple of qualified Asians but for whatever reason haven’t developed a Latino bench yet. That will take time.

My impression is that Latinos might need one of their own on the ticket to get inspired. And someone like Tom Perez would fit the bill.

NB: As of Friday, Nov. 11, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. CST, I’m unsubscribing from all political threads and will no longer participate in discussions in the Elections board, nor in political discussions in the Pit or MPSIMS. If you reply to a political post of mine after that point, I will not see it; please do not PM me to try to pull me back in to the debate. Thanks!

No, Obama is no longer eligible to be VP. The VP must be able to take over as president in the event. What would be the point of having a VP that you’d have to skip over anyway?

Maybe now Chelsea will step to the fore.

Oh lord. Supposedly she’s going to run for Congress, which is fine, but in 2020 there will be no dynastic candidacies for President unless people like repeating mistakes.

I’d vote for her for president! But then, I’d vote for my left nut for president against Trump.

And here is an article at HuffPo suggesting exactly what I was suggesting:

Meet Kamala Harris, Who Could Become the First Woman President

If she runs, California should be a lock for the Dems.

California is always a lock for the Dems, even this time. (Or was that a whoosh?)

THe problem you’re going to run into with Harris is that AGs in recent years have become overly political in a job that’s supposed to be about rule of law. Harris is going to make the base happy, and that might be enough if she can bring out Obama’s coalition, but the danger is that she sets the Democrats up for the same kind of problems they’ve had the last eight years: crushing midterm defeats followed by being totally out of power once Harris is out of office. That’s assuming she can win once we pore over her very political record as AG.

The danger of running against Trump assuming he doesn’t have a disastrous Presidency is that you can’t beat him with an overly political, overly managed candidate. You need someone who can be as blunt as he is without stepping over the line. Authenticity will be a necessary asset for any Democrat running against him. While Harris has much better skills than Clinton, she’s not quite up to Obama’s standards either, so she’s probably going to fail to bamboozle enough independents or new voters.

I still say Duckworth is your first female President.

She is half Thai, was born in Bangkok and is extremely popular in Thailand. That country would go berserk with joy if she won. (She’s fluent in Thai too as well as Indonesian.)

Plus she’s something Harris is not: a veteran and a straight-shooter. Her style will go over much better with the general public I think.

Am I the only one picturing her in a debate with Trump blathering on his “sacrifices” while she silently lifts her skirt up to show off her prosthetics?

I also note with interest that Duckworth obtained her bachelor’s degree from our alma mater, the University of Hawaii at Manoa, the main campus. She graduated in 1989, two years before the future Mrs. Siam Sam and I arrived for our graduate studies.

Whoever it is, the Dems will be up against Pence in 2020. Trump will be long gone.

Somehow, that does not reassure me.

In my book Cory is disqualified, he’s too PC. I don’t need our guy to be Trump of Bill Maher class let it all fly, but look at this discussion and the weasel nature of his dodges.

These are the types of instincts that no one enjoys suffering, it comes across as such obvious political calculation to not offend people. That shit is not going to fly any more. Just come out and say it's Islamic extremism, but that we need the help of muslims to counteract it. Easy, done, but this guy is trying to tap dance around calling a spade a spade.

That list you gave comes across as him being a male Hillary with less baggage. He sounds TOO manicured to make himself and his life story appear like a golden child.

Kaine = total disaster

I don’t even remember his name or face, just the shadows of a goofy grin.

Newsom has the same problem I detect with Corey Booker, he comes across as too… kept. Too manicured. If Sam Harris was not an atheist and more into politics that would be my ideal candidate.
